mine has a timer in each candle which works fine for me
You only need 1 remote to work all "remote ready" candles that have HDPR after the item number. Check your local store to see if they have the remote in stock -- Item # 43009HDPR (THD sku # 1002075727). If you use the timer mine usually lasts about a month
I set my candle timer to run two hours each night and the batteries will last about one month. The longer they are on, the shorter the battery life.
I have mine set to turn themselves on and off every night and I change the batteries 1 or 2 times a session

I had that same problem, You can find them at home depot in the same area as the candles but you need to get them at the beginning of the session because they sell out before the candles maybe you can find them at home depot.com I just us the built in timer to have them turn on and off by them self's
