Outdoor Accents post bases secure the post or column to concrete and are perfect for outdoor projects, such as pergolas, patio covers and other top-supported structures. These post bases feature a clean, simple design and provide ZMAX galvanization with black powder-coat for extra corrosion resistance. Hi Peter, this is Bekah from Simpson Strong-Tie. The APVB66 adjustable refers to the anchor bolt holes that you can adjust the base slightly since the holes are not just circular holes perfectly sized; with their shape you can move the post base should the anchors be slightly offset from exact location. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.

Hi CLong, this is Colin from Simpson Strong-Tie. The anchorage for the APVB66 is per the designer (type and embedment). This base has a 1" standoff, and full bearing on concrete is required. The standoffs shall bear on top of concrete and not be embedded into wet concrete. Anchorage can be cast-in-place, or drilled after the concrete has been poured and cured. Retrofit anchorage for existing concrete is generally more forgiving in it's placement vs cast-in-place. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.

You can use 1/2" or 5/8" anchor bolts to secure the base to the concrete. Both very effective.
I recommend the appropriate 1/2" TITAN HD ANCHOR BOLT and follow instructions on masonry drill bit sizing. Heavy duty holding power and head tightens flush with base plate. An additional galvanized washer is also recommended.
I installed this into a concrete slab using an expanding anchor for a custom pergola I built. It holds up very well. Make sure your concrete slab is thick enough though.
Hi Michael, this is Ricardo with Simpson Strong-Tie. Thank you for utilizing Simpson Outdoor Accents post base Connector. Any of the aforementioned options will work; however, the easiest way to use Strong Bolt 2 (wedge anchors): https://www.strongtie.com/mechanicalanchors_mechanicalanchoringproducts/stb2_anchor/p/strong-bolt-2. If you have further questions, please reach out to our Customer Service team by calling 800-999-5099.
I would recommend using an expansion type bolt into a pre-drilled hole in the concrete. My concern would be the depth of the slab.
Hi jack, thank you for your message. We want to make sure we address your question regarding the APB Adjustable Post Base. The APB can be installed with Titen HD Heavy-Duty Screw anchors, though the THD is meant for interior dry environments. If the carport is going to be exposed to weather than you will want to consider the use of threaded rod anchors with an epoxy such as SET-3G™ High-Strength Epoxy Adhesive . If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you -Stacy
Hi Savannah, this is Colin with Simpson Strong-Tie. The APVB66 is designed for a 6x6 post (5.5" wide) so if you have a 4x6 post (3.5" wide) you would have to use blocking to make up the difference in width. Built-up lumber must be fastened together to act as one unit to resist the applied load(fastening of the members together does not include the connector fasteners). This must be determined by the designer. If you have additional questions, please feel free to reach out to our Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. Thank you-Colin.
