We do suggest purchasing one as it will help stabilize the umbrella and keep it from getting damaged from falling over or blowing away when a gust of wind should come. Please note that when the umbrella is placed into a table umbrella hole, it will still require base weight to keep from moving and possibly damaging the table and umbrella.
