Can I increase the weight capacity of the shelf at all?
The weight capacity is 15 lbs. We do encourage if possible to install the shelf into wall studs for optimal stability and weight capacity support.
Does the 42 inch model have holes in the brackets to hit at least two studs, preferably three?
It does accommodates to hit at least two wall studs.
Is Espresso a dark brown or a black?
The shelf is a dark brown color.
I lost the screws to secure the shelf to the bracket and not sure what the size they are. Does anyone know?

How much weight will the shelf hold
The maximum weight capacity is 15 lbs.
I want to stain the edges, will they sand well and absorb a stain?
I would say no. They ate already colored-but may not be solid wood. I would not attempt it on my shelf.
We do not recommend sanding the product because it will void the manufacturers warranty.
