Questions & Answers

Can this be used on a water heater? I’m having trouble finding an adapter to change the water inlet and outlet from 1” to 3/4”. I’m not sure this can tolerate the high temperature. If this cannot, is there another product that would help solve my issue?

The 1 in. FIP x 3/4 in. MIP Brass Meter Spud Fitting is designed to be durable and corrosion-resistant, with a maximum working pressure of 1200 psi. However, it has a maximum working temperature of 120 °F, which may not be suitable for use with a water heater, as water heaters typically operate at higher temperatures. For your specific need to change the water inlet and outlet from 1 € to 3/4 € on a water heater, you should look for an adapter that can handle higher temperatures. Here are some options to consider: 1. **Brass Reducing Couplings:** These are often rated for higher temperatures and can be used to reduce the pipe size from 1 € to 3/4 €. 2. **Dielectric Unions:** These are used to connect different types of metal pipes and can also handle higher temperatures. 3. **Flexible Water Heater Connectors:** These connectors are designed specifically for water heaters and can accommodate different pipe sizes while withstanding high temperatures. Make sure to check the specifications of any fitting or adapter to ensure it can handle the temperature and pressure requirements of your water heater. If you need further assistance, you may want to consult with a plumbing professional. [This answer was generated by AI and verified by product experts.]

Can you sweat a piece of 3/4 copper pipe inside this fitting? I've seen this done in the past where a threaded end connector can also be used as a sweat fitting. Just not sure about these.

      Answer This Question

No, you cannot sweat a piece of 3/4 copper pipe inside this fitting. This fitting is designed with female and male threaded ends and is intended to be used with iron, copper, or brass pipe through threading, not sweating (soldering). Sweating a pipe involves heating and soldering, which is not suitable for threaded fittings like this one. Here are the key details of this fitting: - **Material:** Brass - **Connection Type:** Threaded (FIP x MIP) - **Compatible Pipe Material:** Iron, copper, or brass pipe - **Maximum Working Pressure:** 1200 psi For proper installation, you should use the threaded connections as intended. If you need to connect a copper pipe using sweating, you should use a fitting specifically designed for soldering. [This answer was generated by AI and verified by product experts.]

Although labeled as FIP, the female side is actually straight-threaded, NOT tapered-threaded, with a rubber gasket, right?

A truck ran over our water meter and cracked this fitting that connects our water line to the water companies meter. It was really hard to find and it was only available at a home depot about 30 minutes from where I live but I made the drive. We called a friend who is a plumber and he was able to replace the fitting and get our water back on same day. Without this fitting we would have been without water for days so I'm really thankful Home Depot had it. Kudos. Our plumber friend said he could have connected the water line without this fitting but this would have caused issues in the future as this fitting allows the water company to detach our water line in case they need to replace the water meter. The new fitting itself seemed to be solid and high quality, mine came with the rubber washer so make sure to check the box. I forgot to take after pictures.

Item needs tag: '3/4" water meter coupling'
I had to get this to adapt to my 3/4" utility-owed water meter. It's similar to item# 312650793 except this was actually in stock at the store (and almost $10 more expensive). I would have been spared a trip to the store had this item been tagged with "water meter coupling" [searching 'water meter coupling' on the website only resulted in items that were not available in the store]. Four stars because it's not tagged with "water meter" and was $10 more expensive than the one referenced above (which has to be ordered).
