Questions & Answers

What is the difference between black oxide hex shank coating and nickel (silver) hex shank coating? Thank you
ByJun 21, 2024
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

I don’t quite understand the question. Do you want to know about the coating on the hex shank or on the actual tool {like the KFD series drills}. Note that our KFD series hex shank drills come with a silver color shank on the smaller sizes which is a 2pc. construction. On the bigger size drill bits it is a one piece Construction where they shank is turned down and is an integral part of the tool. We do not offer a black oxide coating on the shanks. Hope this answer your question.

    Can it drill through stucco

    Answer This Question

This KFD drill is not designed for drilling stucco. We do not offer a 1/16 drill bit for this application. {too small} . Maybe you can try this 1/16 KFD drill but it will dull quickly.

Killer Force Drills (KFD) have a heavy duty 135 degree split point; Self - centering and you use less pressure to start and finish your job. Excellent for stainless Steel and other high tensile strength materials. Example: Titanium and Inconel. What is Inconel? Inconel is a family of austenitic nickel-chromium-based superalloys. Inconel alloys are oxidation-corrosion-resistant materials well suited for service in extreme environments subjected to pressure and heat. When heated, Inconel forms a thick, stable, passivating oxide layer protecting the surface from further attack. Inconel retains strength over a wide temperature range, attractive for high temperature applications where aluminum and steel would succumb to creep as a result of thermally induced crystal vacancies. Inconel's high temperature strength is developed by solid solution strengthening or precipitation hardening, depending on the alloy.

Got a set of these bits. They are designed for quick change and that part works well. These bits are built with two pieces. I tried to drill in hard metal which they say they are supposed to do but I went through two of the bits. Both the bits broke before I could get the holes drilled. I'm sure they would probably work OK with wood or a softer metal.

There are a couple of sizes I use a lot. I primarily use my impact driver so having the ¼” Hex Shank makes it quick to change. Because they have a 135° split point they are supposed to self-center when drilling, so far they has be true for me. Most of what I’ll be drilling into is mild steel and some wood, so I’m hoping they’ll last a long time since they’re designed to drill into stainless steel and hard metals. I like to keep several on hand so if I have a problem on a job site I can just can change out. When I get back to the shop at night or in the morning, I’ll take some time to sharpen them.

1/4 in. Quick Change Drill Bit with Hex Shank (12-Pieces). Made by Drill America. I like the way it handled, Made of Very hard metal, it only took me seconds to bore thru steel with speed and ease. It also keeps itself center with no problems, I could keep going without having to worry about the tip of this bit getting rounded anytime soon. Plus the Hex shank is a perfect fit for my impact driver. Yes, I would recommend it to my friends.

Hard to say much about a dril. My experience in past is the ones smaller than this break a lot larger ones actually fall apart too. Why having 12 is good. They break when I put a lot of pressure on the electric drill and I bend it just a little. I do a lot of building find they break about ever 3 or 4 hours of use which is a lot of use!

These bits work great for pre drilling metal. If treated correctly, we have drilled over 1000 holes with one bit
