A: I wouldn't expose it to weather. The pivot points and hardware connections will rust. I suppose that if you covered them completely and don't live in a high humidity area, they'll work for a time, but I like to do things once, rather than spending more money to buy stainless brackets to replace rusted out mild steel.

A: You will have 3 places to screw the shelf to the bracket. My table top was 20 inches and is very sturdy.

A: To answer your question yes you could make the shelf 24in but remember you are going to loose a decent amount of weight rating. If you could make the shelf even 20in it would be much better and the over hang off the bracket would be a lot less.

A: Yes the shelf is longer on one side and the longer side is meant to be for the top but I flipped mine for doing a smaller shelf. I really feel it’s up to you for your project.

A: the top is the shorter side but you could attach a 16 inch shelf and as long as shelf can support and attached good should be no problem. You have four predrilled holes in that leg. and longer shelf will hide bracket when let down
