Stability of water temperature is very poor, with constant water flow the temperature would cycle from cold to scalding, necessitating caution and constant adjustment. After about a year the water would not get hot. The outlet thermistor was bad. I contacted the company and I had a big issues with warranty repair because I didn't register the product. They reluctantly gave me two thermistors to replace the ones in the heater. The water heater worked again but the inconsistency remained. Eight months later and the water temperature is barely over 100 F. Bad thermistors AGAIN. Now I have to find new themistors!!! I am done with this product.

Very happy with our purchase!
I was hesitant at first to install a tankless water heater, but after reading the other reviews I had confidence to give it a try. We are very pleased with our purchase. It provides reliably hot water - even when up to three showers run at the same time. We had it installed by our plumber and ran into some unexpected electrical issues, but we worked through them. Overall, I would definitely recommend this tankless water heater.

finally we have gotten a great tankless water heater - wooooo pig soooooie
I can honestly say that this electrical tankless water heater in the best one on the market with the electronic temperature control and use of standard heater elements. this has been an excellent water heater so far. I installed it myself after doing some research on what was required to maintain the unit without having it clog up with lime deposits and burning out the heating elements. I made a diagram of the piping for a pre-filter and a bypass valve setup to flush the unit with vinegar to get rid of the deposits. my location had to be in a utility closet under the stairs in the basement that was very tight. it was adjacent to the electrical breaker load center also, but that made the electrical connections closer to the heater.
beware that the factory does not provide a ground location on the housing. they only provide a bus bar for the neutral to the heater body. the knock out for the electrical cables was only for a 3/4" connector which is to small for 2 each #8/3-g cables. to adapt for this I installed a 1" condulet elbow with a 3/4" reducer into the box which gave me a 1" cable connection into the elbow, allowing me to pull the cables into the elbow, strip the outer insulation from the individual conductors and then pull them into the heater to connect them. I then joined the neutrals and the grounds in pairs from each feed and attached them to the 2 lugs of the bus bar.
my wife said this is the first time she has had hot water to the end of a shower in the 11 years we have lived in this house. by adjusting in flow to the heater I can limit the gpm to what the unit is capable of heating per minute and still maintain the set temperature. it takes a little time to adjust the temperature low enough not to scald at the closest faucet and still hot enough at the furthest one. the only limit so far has been to open the tub faucet just enough to fill the tub slowly so you do not outrun the heater. I will soon get a new tub spout that limits the gpm to correct this.
the instructions that came with the heater were very minimal. the factory downloads were not much better. by doing my own research and making a diagram ahead of time I was able to minimize errors in piping and location of all the components.
I debated whether to install the unit by using licensed plumbers and electricians, but finally decided that the cost of 1 to 2 thousand dollars was enough to replace the unit 3 times. the manufacturer states in the literature that it is guaranteed for life in installed by professionals but it is cost prohibitive. besides most of the parts are available at very reasonable cost from the factory. most of the pros are not familiar with instantaneous tankless heaters and with the amount of time to convert from a tank style heater they can't make any money without charging more than it is worth to the home owner. that said it is not for amateurs to install - you have to be an accomplished do it yourselfer. all in all I am very satisfied with the water heater.

Great water heater and good price
ok so install of the unit on the wall and hooking up the lines is easy a mindless monkey can do it. The hard part is running three 8 gauge 40 amp electrical wire runs to power the darn thing. took a few hours of low crawling through my attic. Its a nice Unit it takes up less space than a 50 Gallon water heater.
I would recommend that if you get this make sure you buy the shark bite Hoses it saved me hours of trying to sweat copper pipes to add in new valves to hook up the water lines to this device
I will try to post an update once the power bill comes. This unit is over rated for my house we only have 2 showers and 4 sinks. I have turned it down to 95 degrees and that is plenty hot for us. its pretty slick you can set the temp for what you like an then just turn the shower on the hottest setting and boom instant temp controlled water :-)

Best product ever.
When my old gas water heater tank began leaking, I was so worried "How can I replace it myself?". After browsing Home Depot web site, I read the review of other home owner about the EcoSmart on-demand electric heater, I decided, I am going for it. Connect the unit to the existing plumbing is easy, running the 3 pair of #8 wire plus ground wire to the electric load panel to the back side of the house is a challenge. I managed to pull them through a 1 1/4 inches PVC conduit and terminated to 3 DP 40Amp breakers. I initially set the temperature to 110F but my bath room upstairs has a long plumbing to it, so I settled it to 125F and it has been working wonderfully, my daughter is not complaining of running out of hot water any more.

Well worth it!
5 Stars because of gains. Cubic footprint reduced/reclaimed space/energy efficient/endless hot water.
4 on Ease of Install because I'm an HVAC/R craftsman. Other DIYers' Youtube/pics made me cringe.
4 on Quality only because I like it for now but it's too early to comprehensively summarize.
3 on Value...it's built and provided to you way cheaper than the end price. A very simple system.
If your gonna do this, then do it right unless you want to kill your warranty. Power is 2 circuits of 8/2 run by a reputable, contracted electrician or under his/her supervision & I advise a shark-bite transition from what you have and then CPVC into the tankless. Plumb isolation or bypass in addition to a filter and vinegar flush port. I like valves & unions. They can save a lot of 'aw jeeze" pains in the future. Please see the picture we have attached with this review. 18KW adequately serves my single story-1972, 2300 sqft, 2 Master Bath/1 Half Bath/Washer/Dishwasher/kitchen sink with no issues yet. Can run two showers depending on the thermostat setting. We keep it at 116 F right now in Aug but will likely change when winter and colder city water comes to VA's peninsula. The water temp will fluctuate a bit in the beginning so have patience for it to balance out. Especially if the heater is at one end of the house and the shower on the other end, as in our case. Over 3 weeks installed now, so far so good, & we love it. Bonus...wife would never use hot tap water for cooking. With in-line filter and scheduled vinegar flush, she's okay with the water now. Saves $$ on the slow heating of cold water on the stove (gas or electric).

Glad I purchased this.
Don't replace your old tank water heater with another tank. Buy a tankless water heater and never worry about running out of hot water. This unit hangs on the wall and is small and compact. The plumbing is easily installed to the cut pipes from the old leaky water heater. The Electrical requires an electrician since it requires some major heavy duty wiring. Even tho electrical hookup was a little pricy, you will recapture the expense in no time, since the electric bill goes way down. With a lifetime warranty, I'm extremely happy with my purchase.

Tankless Water Heater, Is Easy On The Meter
Your ECO Smart Tankless Water Heater has provided me and my family with the necessary comfort we have been used to and at a cheaper cost. The Smart heater has many advantages in addition to its comfort. It has alleviated space in the pump room for me to be able to install our very first filter system. This filter has enable us to use our cistern water for more of the family needs. Now my wife is using the cistern water to cook and prepare our meals. The filtered water, has also replaced the many gallons of bottle water, purchased. Again, this opportunity has presented itself to me and my family because of your decision to provide such quality product HD, Thank You

Nice, but couild be improved
Pros: Easy to install, works as designed
Cons: Reduced water flow (slightly, but noticeable in my case), some small fixtures will not flow enough water to make the unit work. In my case, I have a water dispenser at my bar and the flow is about a 1/4 gallon per minute and it does not activate the unit.
The installation was a snap. As you can see from the pictures, I used Shark Bite fittings and will from here on out. The little bit of CPVC glue fittings I installed were more work than they were worth, and installing the Shark Bite would have cut the install time in half since the glue took 2 hours to cure. I wish the unit didn't require screws to be installed at the top of the cover. As you can see from my picture, I installed this at the top of the wall by the ceiling, so I was not able to install the top 2 screws, but rigged it to where the cover is firmly in place.
The instructions also recommend a temperature of 110 degrees. In my case, the incoming water temperature was around 80 degrees, but still needed to increase the temperature to 120 degrees. I don't know if the instructions take into account pressure balance fittings.

Very small foot print compared to the 53 gal hot water heater that was there. Saving me time not having to wait for the water to heat up and also saving me $$ because it only comes on when needed.

Disappointing performance
First on the installation aspect easy to install but not engineered very well. Watch out when tightening your connections they are to close to main box to get wrenches on the nuts to tighten. screws for the cover are in the same place as connecting valves, hard to get to. Hook-up is easy but directions say do not use Teflon, weld or paste, they leak if you use the recommended inlet and outlet valves for $75.00.
I live in NEast my inlet water temp is low, do not recommend for a 3bed 2 bath up here hot water is not sustainable with this unit. I have only 3 water outlets in a small ranch and cannot run sink and washing machine at the same time for more than 30 seconds. I turned the waterflow on inlet to 1/2 and still cannot take shower and wash dishes with hot water. Very disappointing. Please insure to read the small print on the warranty. Must be installed by LICENSED plumber and electrician or not valid according to the 800 number.

So far so good! the installation is simple for anyone that's handy, event the electrical hookup is straight forward. I have this unit connected after my Geothermal Heat pumps pre heating tank and so far the unit is not running a whole lot. I can see in my electric usage charts it is definitely down since the install. Time will tell as to the reliability and cost saving. my total install cost including electric was around $750.

Wonderful Product, Best Tankless Water Heater
What such a marvelous water heater, compact and super efficient. Bought 11kW, install a water filter before the unit for debris protection and ualaah. Instant hot water, enough for 2 bathroom at a time (instalation distance is important). Even at 105F, we still using some cold water to balance temp. Of course, Mr William at Home Depot Hatillo, PR make a great difference by orienting me about needed pipe, connection and pipe. Without his brilliant advice I couldn't made it. Customer Service at Home Depot Hatillo is #1, definitely an A . Agustin from Manati, Puerto Rico.

I am having a hard time with this.
Be prepared this is an electric monster. I have up graded everything the techs have told me too. It uses so much electricity. The energy needed drops like a hammer. If you wiring. Electric pole can't handle it you have problems. As do I !!! The main circuit breaker to the townhouse keeps tripping. I find it hard to recommend.

Glad I chose it, even if more changes
Tried to fix existing self-cleaning water heater, but new heating coils did not cut it. So, made the decision for an On Demand and chose this one. Required rewiring as more Amps were needed. Then, found out Fuse Box was only 100 Amp, not 200 Amp which was needed, so had to replace that. Also needed to cut tree limbs for higher placed electric wire (thank you electric co-op). Had to put in new elbows and flexible connectors to the On Demand as it had a different placement than 55 gallon water heater. So, after about 5 months of multiple people working on this to get things out, then in, then fitted to, the On Demand is doing great. The 110 degree setting seems too hot for me in summer heat, so I'll lower it iand maybe go back to up in winter. Without the rework time and costs, it would have been the same price as replacing my existing water heater. But, since I am not heating water to keep it at temperature 24/7, but only when I need it for dishes and showers, I'm sure there will be a lower electrical cost effect. Too soon to know what it is. Would recommend to anyone who is capable of thinking outside the box (or tank)! Saves space and I can store more in that room too!

It does what it says it will...
After much research, I chose this unit due to the amprage and wiring needed. The bigger unit would of been preferred, but limited space in electric panel for an addition double breaker and the additional guage wire and number of wires required. I was a little skeptical if this unit could meet my needs, but after installation completed I was able to confirm a 76 degree rise in temp (10ft away) and 66 degree rise in temp (over 150ft away from unit) running a lavatory faucet and a shower. Installation was easy once wire run to unit from panel (approx 50ft). Incoming water temp was 44 degrees from a deep well in Southwest MI in April when install completed.

Ecosmart 27 KW Tankless Water Heater
I installed on 1/29/14 and I also replaced my tank heater. In February I purchased the envi r energy monitor with the extra appliance monitors. So I ran the tankless by itself, 3 people living in house (4 but Im on the road all the time) The tankless averaged 12.25 kw hours per day. Ran it for about 3 weeks. Then I turned off tankless and ran the tank alone for about 3 weeks. The tank averages 12.7 kwh per day. So in summary, in my house, it didn't save me money. Without getting technical physics is physics. It takes x amount of energy to heat x amount of water PERIOD. The only bad thing is one cold morning, the heater was running and the dryer. when my daughter went to shower it tripped the breaker (too many amps) I have 200 amp service, but those heat strips pull a lot of amps. Anyway it does what it says (never ending hot water) Pulls lots of amps when in use but of course zero when not used. The only other experiment im going to try is to set tank at lowest temperature and run both together, Maybe it will save me a little bit to keep water at 90 vs 125. and let the tankless heat from 90 to 125 Z(therefore pulling less amps)

Finally! Unlimited hot water!
We ordered this tankless hot water heater when our old water heater had to be replaced. The size of it is very small and compact. We have the entire closet free now. My husband was able to install it with some help. The only issue we encountered at first was that the hot water was not very hot but just regulating the flow through the hot water heater rectified that issue. It does decrease the amount of water coming out to fill up the bathtub but that was the only issue we noticed.

From Phoenix,
This water heater works excellent, I can run two showers and a sink at the same time with no problems, hot water is fast to get to the back bathroom, most of the installation was very easy, the one thing I could not do was the electrical it required 3 new 40 amp breakers and a fair amount of 8 gauge wire (3 of them) all with a positive, neutral, and a ground wire, which then required all to be placed into a 1" piece of conduit, but all in all it only took 2 hours to do the electrical and 20 mins to mount and connect the plumbing, looks great works perfect and I have had no issues. This replaces a 80 gal old school water heater, frees up a lot of garage space and is saving me $$ on my electric bill. I checked out how easy it would be to change out heating elements and looks like it would be simple, (if necessary) (all parts are guarantied for life) Now I have endless hot water and I would highly recommend it to all. I called in because I wanted my 10% retired military discount, they were great to work with.

Efficient Hot Water
Today I called the gas company and shut off my service. My old 40 gallon water went out on me 10 days ago. I ordered this 18KW ECO SMART system when it was on sale for 319.00 So far everything works GREAT! The biggest concern you will need to address is you breaker box in your home. If you have a 150- 200 AMP breaker box don't think twice about getting this. I had to have a good bit of ELECTRICAL work done to upgrade for this system. I researched the many options out there. This was what I was looking for. Something that was 100% electrical, On demand use, Self contained, and almost no maintenance for up keep. My brother and I put ball valves in the lines to ease the maintenance and service for the Eco Smart system. It handles with EASE a nice hot water temp in my upstairs master-bedroom shower. This is the farthest point away from the unit. All and all I am very happy so far with this investment for my home.
