Mystery seedlings along with grass.
Six days after planting I’m seeing grass seedlings popping up, but even more heart shaped sprouts. I’m not certain what other seeds were in this mix, but it doesn’t look like grass to me. I’ll give it a few more weeks to see what develops but as of now I’m disappointed.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Rapid Grass Tall Fescue Mix and appreciate your feedback. It is normal to have some weeds germinate when seeding. There are approximately 10,000 weed seeds per 1 cubic foot of native soil. Soil preparation brings weed seeds to the surface. All Scotts seed is thoroughly cleaned and is 99.9% weed seed free, in fact The Scotts Advantage states weeds are removed from our crops by filtering Scotts seed 3 times. Our grass seed is harvested in June/July, well before the time of crabgrass maturity which occurs during late summer when it sets seed. Therefore it's not possible our crop can be contaminated with crabgrass seeds. Soil amendments such as manure and straw often contain weed seeds. Weed seeds can be blown or carried into area prior to grass seed becoming established. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

Know what you are buying before you purchase. Rapid growth says it all. The rapid grass that germinates quickly is RYE grass that is meant to grow and hold the soil to cut down on erosion. Fescues will germinate a couple of weeks afterwards. Both will be stressed in 85 degree heat or higher. I planted in Metro Atlanta in late April just to get me to the Fall which is ideal time for an all Fescue seed product to be applied. I am very happy with what I got.

It has weeds growing in between
The grass cane very fast Green showing up in 2 weeks . At 4 weeks it’s nice lush green . One big disappointment though was the weeds or a different type of grass growing in between. Which means there was another seed type or weed besides tall fescue which is a pain to remove. I had my landscaper completely kill old grass, waited for a full 3 months before digging . So prep was complete . I will appreciate if customer service can help me resolve this weed issue .

Works good if u follow directions
I live in Northern California SF BAY AREA planted in March 2024 spring time when Temps were from 60 to 70 degrees F during the day and 40 to 50 degrees F at night after the rains had slowed down followed the directions and tilled the lawn spread the seed as recommended covered with layer of peat moss and it sprouted in about 7-10 days!!! Had a issue with gophers but used traps to keep them in check... I also used Scott's 3in1 fertilizer because I over seeded the lawn it also will kill crab grass and dandelions clover and weeds to help the seed take over and out-crowd the unwanted greens etc. I believe if u follow the directions and use some peat moss and till the soil u can achieve good results... so many variables but if u are detailed determined and dedicated it Will work!

          Grows fescue and rye grass
I bought this last fall. Planted it then also. It came up and made it through the winter. However, every place I planted it in the yard now has annual rye grass growing in with the tall fescue. So I’m not sure why it is showing up only in the areas I used this grass seed. I have lived in this home for 18 years and have never had rye grass in my fescue. So my only conclusion is there was rye seeds in the tall fescue blend. So I’m not to impressed with the seed. I now have a bit of a mess.

Recommended by a friend and worked for me!
It's been 2 weeks since I seeded the lawn. I had germination after day 7! We have sandy loam here in southern Oklahoma. Very important to follow the directions. I spread the seed, covered with thin layer of pine needles (we have many pine trees) and watered twice daily.

Seed is great! Take the time to prepare lawn area.
Planted in northwest Kansas in mid April this year, grew in a bit spotty at first but has since filled in almost completely. I think its very key to evenly till your dirt, I used Sun Joe electric tiller twice on the lawn area. Also I wish I did a better job of watering evenly, as I feel it would have helped it grow more consistently. Over the seed has done great and held up through the dog and a few hail storms so far! Also have the same seed growing in front about a month behind.

                  Green Full Lawn
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was a very good grass seed. It elevated the color in my back lawn to dark green. It also thicken my lawn and covered bald spots I have. It will be interesting to see what will happen during the heat and humidity of the summer since this product claims to protect against it. So far so good.

Amazing results in just 3 weeks
More than 1/2 of my large backyard lawn was dead. I took on the project to till, rake and replant it this fall. The 1st sprout appeared in just 6 days (we did have a ton of rain). I cannot believe the transformation in just 3 weeks. Pricey but worth it - I'm a believer! See pics of where it started and how it looked 3 weeks after planting and watering 2x a day.

                      Great Fast Setting Seed
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After adding sprinklers for better coverage in a corner that has suffered for years, I used Rapid Grass seed with a turf-seed soil mix in the work area and on 'patchy' areas nearby. Photos are 23 days apart. I had the area roped off and constantly irrigated and only once very delicately cut some of the more established grass with a string trimmer. So staying out of the area, irrigation, and seed-to soil contact and time is the best recipe. I believe the fertilizer with this seed was very beneficial as well and a good bonus. Weather high was in 70's week 1, mid 60's week 2, then 80's week 3. The photos speak for themselves here!

                        Rapid Results
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve had great results with this product. I have four dogs that are constantly burning the grass with urine. Rapid Grass is the best product to get my grass looking green and perfect again without having to wait forever. With proper watering, I had new grass popping up within a couple of weeks. Definitely will use again and find it’s a great value for those of us who are impatient!

                          Exceeds my expectations
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am very satisfied with the performance of this product. After installing a paver walkway, the perimeter edge was bare soil/sand with a cement lip underneath. I applied this product along with soil conditioner on one section of walkway that is in full sun so I could verify its performance before applying it to the entire perimeter of the walkway. Application and maintenance are typical of what you expect with grass seeds and the directions on the packaging are clear and easy to follow. By the end of week 2, the grass was thriving, healthy and lush. I had a heavy downpour that washed away a section of the seed and fertilizer before it started to take take root and I reseeded that section when I applied the product to the remainder of the perimeter. This product required minimal effort for application and maintenance and the end result is a healthy looking grass that grew rapidly, exceeding my expectations.

                            Easy to use
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Turf Builder Rapid Grass has a combination of tall fescue grass seed and fertilizer, providing an easy to use mix that takes out the guesswork. My lawn has some large bare spots and this is exactly what I needed to fill in those spots and make it look great. Directions are straightforward. Make sure you water daily. In about a week, I started to get grass sprouting and in about 2 to 2.5 weeks, the coverage looked really good. I like this product and had a successful experience.

                              Worked Great!
Worked really well and I now have the start to a lush green lawn. Grass seed was laid over well prepared dirt, but the dirt was by no means rich or well fertilized. All I did was water well and Scotts Rapid Grass did not disappoint!

                              Grows really well
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My backyard has a lot of bare spots from last summer being hot and my child and dog playing in the grass so I had a lot of spots to fill and I wanted to help fill in the grass areas we did have to make the lawn really fluffy and soft to play in and this stuff worked fantastically. For starts we did have some random frost after I threw it down and was super worried that it wouldn’t grow and while it took a bit longer because of that the seed still grew in and really filled in my bare areas well while adding so much more to my existing grass making my back yard really thick and green. There are still a few spot that the grass is still growing in from the seeds but the fact that it is still growing despite having a few cold days is pretty amazing.

                                Amazing Results!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am new to treating tall Fescue as I previously lived in Florida and had St. Augustine grass. The Scotts® Turf Builder® Rapid Grass Tall Fescue Mix made it full proof for me to improve my grass and fill in a lot dead space. I watered twice daily for approximately 3 weeks and see pictures of results. This product was easy to use and the instructions are detailed. I highly recommended this product!

                                  Lawn Looks Thick
This product works great. I would suggest getting Scott’s weed and feed hose attachment bottle after this to address the unwanted growth. My lawn is thicker than it has ever been! We have pictures to prove it!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's been over 4 weeks, much improvement still have a few problems areas which I have always had. We have a dog and she is hard on the grass especially in the winter and spring time. Overall, I would recommend this product.

                                    Grass growing made easy!
Early spring we noticed our front yard had more weeds coming up than previous years. We spent several days pulling weeds from our lawn and we were left with large bare spots of just dirt. Yikes! We decided to plant grass seed and see what happened! We tilled the areas and added additional topsoil to the bare areas. We spread the Rapid Grass seed very heavily, in hopes that at least some of it would grow. I love that this package not only included grass seed but a fertilizer as well. This combo seemed like the best way to get our grass started. We have been watering the seeded areas twice a day. Keeping the soil moist is definitely key to the grass growing success! And keeping the birds and squirrels away from the grass seed! I was impressed that after 5 days, we were able to see tiny little sprouts coming up! That seemed too quick as most people say it takes 2-3 weeks before seeing any signs of new grass. After 2 weeks of watering, we have most of our bare spots filled in with grass blades about 2 inches! I am super impressed with Scotts Rapid Grass Tall Fescue Mix! We will be using this on our backyard project this week as well! Looking forward to having a summer with a beautiful grass for our family to enjoy!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great product, i did a test plot on my side yard with this and it came in great! Just roughed up the soil put down the recommended amount per sqft, watered 3 times a day for 10 min and had seed germination in 7 days! This product is great because it comes with the needed nutrients baby grass needs to gelp grow and mature in just 1 bag instead of having to buy fertilzer and seed seporatly

                                          Great grass results every time
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our yard has several spots that are bare still from new construction two years ago. So we buy a bag or two here and there to get those spots covered in grass. I like the rapid grass because I know that it will grow every time I use it. If you use it in the early spring when it is still a bit cold it will take longer to come up, however when it is staying at least in the 50’s at night, then it takes two weeks or less to get the grass growing and it does come through nice and thick once it starts growing and maturing. This grass seed will get the bare spots covered and the yard looking great.

                                            No more mistakes this time...
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Last Spring, I cleared an area in my front yard and put down Scotts Tall Fescue seed. I put down some cheap fertilizer and watered twice a day for two weeks but the results were less than spectacular. I think that was my fault because I didn’t rake the seed in and the birds in the neighborhood were feasting on the seed. The other reason is that Scotts recommends planting in the Fall – not the Spring. I live in an area where we can get snow in mid to late May. I jumped the gun on planting, so the fact that I had any seed germinate is a testament to the quality of Scotts seed. This year, I’m planting in the Spring again but things are going to be different. I’ll rake a small area to loosen the soil before planting and once I spread the seed/fertilizer mixture, I’ll lightly rake again. However, I won’t put all the seed down until the air has reached the recommended temperature and the chance of frost has passed. I will try putting a small amount of the mixture in a small test area that I can water by hand and waiting 2 weeks to see if anything comes up. If not, I’ll try that again until I see good results and then I’ll take care of the remainder of the area and set up the sprinkler and timer. My expectations are that I will be very pleased with what I see 2 weeks after the final spreading of the seed/fertilizer. I’ve been a Scotts customer for many years and haven’t been disappointed yet! Yes – I’ll be overseeding in the Fall…

Used on Eastern Shore of Maryland. Planted area approximately 10' x 60'. Grass grew quickly, and beautifully. Then just as quickly, small brown areas developed, that turned to large brown spots, and then it all died. Planted on Scott's Turf Builder Lawn Soil. Watered up to twice daily (as per instructions). Nothing could save it. Product used well before plant by date. Planted in 5 sections over period of 1 + month. Picture shows last section still partially green. Above, are first 4 sections, already dead.
