Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting CFLs, lead acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, and plastic plant pots for recycling.
Home Depot stores sent approximately 5.3 million pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This helped the planet by preserving over 63,500 trees, keeping over 16,000 trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saving over 50 million gallons of water, and conserving 7.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
LED lights in your local store cut down energy consumption by 98 million kilowatt hours. Many stores also participate in renewable energy initiatives such as solar and wind.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our customers and associates, and this commitment extends beyond our stores to our communities, as well as the environment. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our eco actions.

Supporting the community is important to us at The Home Depot. Does my local Home Depot still offer Kids Workshops?
Yes, the Madison Heights store does offer in-person Kids Workshops. These in-store events are free and take place every first Saturday of the month between 9am-noon. You may secure your Kids Workshop kit by registering online for the event. We have a new kit pack every month to keep your little doer engaged. Included in the kits are all necessary craft materials, as well as instructions, stickers, an apron pin, a certificate of achievement, and a Discovery Education extension activity. Paint and all other required tools are provided at the event. Customers who prefer not to participate in the in-person event can pick up their free kit in-store or order online at our Kids Projects Activities page to have it shipped to their home. Call us or visit our customer service counter to order your kit.
How do I check the balance of my Home Depot gift card?
Gift cards to The Home Depot are a popular present for the holidays, housewarming parties, and birthdays. DIYers know they're fun to receive and to give. Purchase them online at homedepot.com or in our brick-and-mortar stores. If you're a recipient, you can check your gift card balance online or visit your local Home Depot store and ask a cashier to check the balance for you.
