How do I rent tools or trucks?
Stop by the Rental Center at your nearest Home Depot to see what trucks and tools are up for rent. If you want to be sure of what's in stock, call first to inquire about a truck or tool. You might also visit our truck rental or tool and equipment rental pages to see if what you need is in stock at your store. For more on renting tools, read these Tool Rental FAQs, which includes equipment terms and conditions.
How long can I rent tools?
Tool rentals start at four hour time slots. Simply choose the length of time that suits you. Small DIY projects may only require a short rental period, and we can accommodate large projects as well. You've got options to rent tools by the week, month, or day, too. If you need it longer than what you signed up for, call the Rental Center to arrange an extension and avoid late fees.
When can I bring the tools back?
It's fine to return the tools early if you finish your project faster than planned, but on-time works, too. Just make sure to bring them back by the deadline listed on your rental paperwork. Please clean off any mud or dirt from the tool as well. If you need them longer, give the rental center a call to see if you can extend your rental period.
Can I rent a truck for a week?
Rent a truck or cargo van for as long as you need it. For short trips, 75 minutes may be enough time. Otherwise, consider renting it by the week or the day, depending on the length of your project. Don't forget to factor in the drive to and from the store, as you'll need to bring it back to the same store you rented it from. Penske moving truck rentals allow round-trip options as well as one-way options, and they have different terms. Make sure to read the provided documentation before you select a truck.
Should I refill the rental truck with gas before I bring it back?
Yes, please fuel up the truck before you return it. Note the amount of gas in the tank when you receive the truck, and be sure to fill it with enough gas to match that same level. If you don't, you'll be hit with a penalty known as the fuel replacement charge.
Do I just need a driver's license to rent a truck?
No, you also need to be 21 or older, in addition to holding a valid driver's license. Depending on your state, you might require car insurance, as well as a credit card hold or a deposit, too. We don't accept cash for Home Depot truck rentals, so please bring your credit card. Penske moving truck rentals have different requirements, so read those if you plan to rent a Penske truck.
