Take on any DIY project with the tools you need — even if you don't own them. Rent tools, use them, and return them when you're done. You can complete your project without taking up garage or workshop storage with tools you rarely reach for.
Tool Rental
Using The Home Depot Tool Rental Center in Macomb Township helps you handle bigger DIY projects. You won't be limited by only what you have on hand or have to settle for untrustworthy hand-me-down tools. Rent the tools to finish your project safely. If your local store doesn't have the tool you need in stock, try checking another one within driving distance.
Tame the Trees and Lawn Early
Lighten the load with outdoor power equipment rentals and whip the yard into shape again. Neaten around the garden and bushes with edgers and rental lawn mowers, and get that driveway clean again with a pressure washer rental. Your outdoor oasis will be ready for new spring flowers before you know it.
Add Insulation When the Weather is Cooler
For a more energy-efficient home, replace your insulation in the spring — before it gets dangerously hot in your attic. Rent equipment made for insulation to install it correctly. Decide between a fiberglass blower or a cellulose insulation blower, and insulate those nooks and crannies well. It'll keep the house cooler this spring and summer, then continue working year-round. You'll enjoy warmer temps in the winter, too, which can lessen heater usage.
Rental Trucks
Choose one of our trucks when you need a cargo van or truck. It's great for hauling a tool rental or large purchase. With an excellent price and availability, our vehicles are ready to roll, so you can keep moving on your project. We've also got box trucks and Penske moving trucks to help ease the stress of a big move. Availability varies by store, so check the FAQ or speak to an Orange Apron to ensure you find the right rental truck for you.
Large Equipment Rentals
Complete massive projects with the right professional equipment. Our large equipment rentals give you the power you need to finish the job. From the boom lifts and scissor lifts to give you a boost to the mini skid steers and mini excavators for hauling materials, we've got a surprising variety of equipment available. If a large equipment rental could help you, explore and see what we've got in stock.
Although we're calling out specific large equipment, tool, and truck rentals, not everything is available at every rental center. If you've got a particular tool in mind, please contact your local rental center to see where you can pick it up.
How do I rent trucks, tools, or large equipment?
Stop by the Rental Center at your nearest Home Depot to see what trucks or tools you can rent. If you want to be sure of what's in stock, call first to inquire about a truck, tool, or large equipment. You may also read our truck rental or tool and equipment rental pages to see if what you need is in stock at your store. For more information on renting large equipment or tools, read the Tool Rental FAQs, including terms and conditions for the equipment.
Can I rent large equipment or a tool by the hour?
You can rent a tool or large equipment for four hours or more. Simply choose the length of time that suits you. Small home improvement projects may only require a rental that's a few hours long, and long-term jobs aren't a problem either. You've got options to rent large equipment and tools by the week, day, or month, too. If you need it longer than anticipated, call your Rental Center to arrange an extension and avoid late fees.
When do I return the tools?
You can return the tools early if you complete your project ahead of schedule, but on-time works, too. Just make sure to bring them back by the deadline listed on your rental paperwork. Please clean off residual dust, mud, and grime from the tool as well. If you need them longer, call the rental center to see if you can extend your rental period.
Can I rent a truck for a week?
Rent a cargo van, box truck, or flatbed truck for as long as you need it. For short trips, 75 minutes might be enough time. Otherwise, consider renting it by the week or the day, depending on the length of your project. Be sure to factor in the drive between the job site and the store, as you must return it to the same store where you rented it. Penske moving truck rentals allow one-way rentals as well as round-trip options, and they have different terms. Make sure to read the contract before choosing your vehicle.
Do I need to refuel the rental truck when I'm done?
Yes, please fuel up the truck before you return it. Note the fuel level when you receive the truck, and fill it with enough gas to match that same level. When you don't refill the vehicle, you'll have to pay a penalty known as the fuel replacement charge.
Can I rent large equipment or a truck with only a driver's license?
No, you also need to be 21 or older, in addition to holding a valid driver's license. Depending on your state, you may require car insurance, as well as a credit card hold or a deposit, too. Please bring your credit card for Home Depot truck rentals, as we don't accept cash. Penske moving truck rentals have different requirements, so read those if you plan to rent a Penske truck. Large equipment or select tools also require ID verification via CLEAR.
Do I need to pick up my large equipment rental from the store?
Depending on your location, you may be able to get large equipment delivered straight to your job site for an affordable rate — whether that's at your home or out in the field. You'll need to rent it for one day or longer and provide us with 24 hours notice so we can prepare your rental delivery for you. Speak to an associate for the ideal way to get your large equipment.
What are some ways to avoid penalties and extra fees on rented large equipment?
Think of your rented large equipment as any other vehicle: Make sure it's parked legally and you obey traffic laws. Read the manual so you're using it correctly to avoid injuring yourself or damaging the equipment. Also, plan ahead to ensure the equipment is ready when you are, as cancelling within 12 hours of delivery means you'll incur a cancellation fee. Make sure to return equipment by the deadline or extend the rental period to accommodate the extra time you require.
