The Home Depot Rental Center at Portage (Kalamazoo)

When you're beginning to leap into a home improvement project, you might not have the specialty tools you need in the shed or workshop. Don't let that stop you when you can stop by The Home Depot Portage (Kalamazoo) Tool Rental Center.

Tool Rental
Our tool and equipment rental choices expand your toolbox and toolbelt with the exact tools you need to complete the job. It's not necessary to buy a specific tool when you're not using it at least once a week. When you're considering a new tool, try it out before you choose which one to buy. Whatever your situation, we have just what you're looking for.

Make Painting Easier with Rental Scaffolding and Paint Sprayers
Gorgeous springtime days are a great time to tackle outdoor painting projects. Renew surfaces with a fresh coat of paint. Whether you need scaffolding rentals for painting a shed, or rental ladders for painting fences, or a paint sprayer rental for professional coverage, we have what you need.

Rent Shop Vacs, Post Hole Diggers, and Floor Sanders
Tackle major projects with robust power tools. Take your scuffed wooden floor to the next level with a floor sander rental and a wet/dry vacuum to get the floors smooth and ready for refinishing. Construct a new fence around your property faster and more efficiently with a post hole digger rental, then utilize other concrete tools that suit your job.

Rental Trucks
For transporting large tool rentals or anything else, we keep pickup trucks and box trucks ready to rent — with availability varying by store. We also offer Penske moving trucks in sizes ranging from 12-feet to 26-feet at certain stores. You're sure to find the right size truck rental for your DIY project so you can keep your job on track. As your source for DIY jobs, it's smart to make us your go-to source for transport and moving as well.

Large Equipment Rentals
Handle expansive projects with the right professional equipment. Our large equipment rentals give you the power you need. From the scissor lifts and boom lifts to give you a boost to the mini skid steers capable of hauling materials on outdoor job sites, we've got an expansive variety of equipment available. If a large equipment rental could help you, explore and see what we've got in stock.

Although we're calling out specific large equipment, truck, and tool rentals, our rental center may not have everything on hand for your required time frame. If you've got a particular piece of equipment in mind, please contact your local rental center to see where you can pick it up.

Frequently Asked Questions about Rentals

How do I rent trucks, tools, or large equipment?

Stop by the Rental Center at your nearest Home Depot to see what's available. If you'd like to be sure of what's in stock, call first to inquire about a tool, truck, or large equipment. You may also visit our tool and equipment rental or truck rental pages to see if what you need is in stock at your favorite store. For more info on renting large equipment or tools, read these Tool Rental FAQs, including equipment terms and conditions.

Can I rent a tool or large equipment for a day?

You can rent large equipment or tools for four hours or more. It depends on how long you'd like to rent them. Small home improvement projects may only require a short rental period, and long-term projects aren't a problem either. You've got options to rent tools by the day, week, or month, too. If you need it longer than what you signed up for, call your Rental Center to arrange an extension and avoid late fees.

When do I bring the tools back?

You can return the tools early if you complete your project ahead of schedule, but on-time works, too. Just make sure to bring them back by the deadline listed on your rental paperwork. Please clean off any grime and dust from the tool as well. If you need it longer, give the rental center a call to see if you can extend your rental period.

How long can I rent a truck?

Rent a truck or cargo van for as long as you need it. For short trips, 75 minutes could be plenty. Otherwise, consider renting it by the day or the week, depending on the length of your project. Don't forget to factor in the drive between the job site and the store, as you'll need to bring it back to the same store you rented it from. Penske moving truck rentals allow one-way rentals as well as round-trip options, and they have different terms. Be sure to read the terms and conditions before selecting a truck.

Should I refill the rental truck before I bring it back?

Yes, please fill up the truck before you bring it back. Match the amount of gas that was in the tank when you got the rental. If you don't, you'll have to pay a penalty known as the fuel replacement charge.

Do I just need a driver's license to rent large equipment or a truck?

No, you must hold a valid driver's license and be over the age of 21. Depending on your state, you might require car insurance, as well as a credit card hold or a deposit, too. We don't accept cash for Home Depot truck rentals, so please bring your credit card. Penske moving truck rentals have different requirements, so read those if you plan to rent a Penske truck. Select tools as well as large equipment also require ID verification via CLEAR.

Do I need to go get my rented large equipment from the store?

Depending on your location, you can get large equipment delivered straight to your job site for a reasonable cost — out in the field or at your own home. We'll need at least 24 hours notice so we can adequately prepare your rented equipment and you'll need to rent it for a full day. Speak to an associate for the ideal way to get your large equipment.

What are some ways to avoid extra fees and penalties on rented large equipment?

Think of your rented large equipment as any other vehicle: Make sure it's parked legally and you obey traffic laws. Read the manual so you're using it correctly to avoid injuring yourself or damaging the equipment. Also, plan ahead to ensure the equipment is ready when you are, as cancelling within 12 hours of delivery means you'll incur a cancellation fee. Extend your rental period if you need extra time so you won't get dinged with a late fee.
