Tool and Equipment Rental
Jump into your next DIY project with confidence and the best tools for the job. Let The Home Depot San Carlos Tool Rental Center fill in the gaps in your toolbelt with the items you don't have at home. You can rent what you need and return it when the job is done. If you need to add those tools in your toolbox permanently, inquire about buying our retired rental tools. The retired rental tools are discounted compared to the new items in our aisles.
Tame the Bushes and Lawn Early
Greet the spring with outdoor power equipment rentals and whip the yard into shape again. Neaten around the garden and bushes with trimmers and rental lawn mowers, and get that driveway and sidewalk clean again with a pressure washer rental. Your outdoor oasis will be looking fresh and ready for new spring flowers in no time.
Add Insulation When the Weather is Cooler
To make your home more energy efficient, update your insulation in the spring — before it gets dangerously hot in the attic. Rent specialized equipment for insulation to get it installed correctly. Choose from a fiberglass blower or a cellulose insulation blower, and insulate those nooks and crannies well. Installing insulation keeps your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, all while tempering your heating and cooling bills.

How do I rent a tool or moving truck?
Stop by your local Rental Center to see what's available. If you want to be sure of what's in stock, call first to inquire about a truck or tool. You may also read our tool and equipment rental or truck rental pages to see if what you need is offered at your store. For more on renting tools, read our Tool Rental FAQs, including equipment terms and conditions.
Can I rent a tool by the hour?
Tool rentals start at four hour time slots. Simply choose the length of time that suits you. Small DIY projects may only require a short rental period, and long-term jobs can also be accommodated. You've got options to rent tools by the month, week, or day, too. If you need it longer than anticipated, call your Rental Center for an extension and avoid late fees.
When do I bring the tools back?
It's fine to return the tools early if you finish your project faster than planned, but on-time works, too. As long as you return it by the deadline you were given when you rented it, you'll be good to go. Please clean off any built-up dirt from the tool as well. If you need the tools longer, call your local rental center to see if you can extend your rental period.
How long can I rent a truck?
Rent a box truck, cargo van, or flatbed truck for as long as you need it. For short trips, 75 minutes may be enough time. Otherwise, consider renting it by the day or the week, depending on the length of your project. Remember to factor in the drive to and from the store, as you must return it to the same store where you rented it. Penske moving truck rentals allow one-way rentals as well as round-trip options, and they have different terms. Make sure to read the contract before choosing a vehicle.
Should I refill the rental truck with gas before I bring it back?
Yes, please fuel up the truck before you bring it back. Match the amount of gas that was in the tank when you got the rental. If you don't, you'll have to pay a penalty known as the fuel replacement charge.
Do I just need a driver's license to rent a truck?
No, you also need to be 21 or older, in addition to holding a valid driver's license. Depending on your state, you may require car insurance, as well as a credit card hold or a deposit, too. We don't accept cash for Home Depot truck rentals, so please bring your credit card. Penske moving truck rentals have different requirements.
