About This Product

Hide your deck screws on almost any board with the Camo Marksman hidden deck fastener system. Enjoy the fastener free, professional looking deck top, from these star drive exterior screws on almost any wood or composite decks in any square or grooved board profile. Edge hidden deck screws are the best way to enjoy the beauty of your deck top without seeing your hidden fasteners. Edge hidden deck screws are installed on the edge of the deck board, providing a clean surface, also leveraging the strength of the entire deck screw by going in on an angle, pinning the board in place from both sides. The rake tip design augers out material as it is driven helping to prevent splitting, cracking, and bubbling, extending the life of your deck. The coarse thread of these wood deck screws provide the fastener with greater durability and resistance to stripping. Achieve the perfect automatic fastener depth when using the provided T-15 star drive. These universal fasteners are designed to be installed with our hidden deck fastening systems: either the Camo Marksman or Drive system. Available in Protech exterior coating suitable for most exterior applications or 316 Stainless Steel for exterior applications exposed to excessive amounts of moisture and longer lasting deck fasteners.

Highlights

  • Fasten on the edge of the deck board to provide a clean, professional, deck top
  • Universal hidden deck fasteners for pressure treated lumber, hardwoods, cedar, and composite decks installed on any angle

  • T-15 star drive provides automatic depth stop with Marksman tools, stopping the screw at the perfect depth, bits for grooved boards sold separately
  • T-15 driver bit included

  • 1-7/8" length can be used for board thicknesses 1" or less, while 2-3/8" length can be used for any thickness up to 1-1/2"

What size screw would I need for a 2X6 redwood deck board?
    ByJun 19, 2020
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

Thank you for your CAMO question, For nominal 2x decking, use 2-3/8" CAMO Fasteners. With Redwood material, we recommend stainless steel fasteners to reduce the chance of tannin reaction or streaking. Check out Home Depot Item #203040866 for what should work in your situation. What keeps treated deck boards from cupping?
      ByMar 10, 2020
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

Thank you for your CAMO question! The CAMO Edge Deck Fastening System provides a secure hold because your deck boards are secured directly to the substructure by the CAMO Edge Deck Screws. However, some treated lumber is being sold extremely wet/green and board cupping can occur as the board dries. To combat this we recommend a few options: - Allow the treated lumber to dry prior to installation - Utilize KDAT deck boards (Kiln Dried After Treatment) as this options allows the wood to dry more evenly and will decrease the wood's natural tendency to cup, warp or shrink - Install your treated deck boards "frown down" (installing the boards incorrectly "curve up" is not recommended because cupping may occur resulting in possible moisture retention and board rot) Thank you for viewing this CAMO product! -Team CAMO

What size screws should I use for 5/4 Ipe? Are the 1-7/8 ok or should I go with the 2-3/8?
        ByJun 23, 2018

        Answer This Question

I personally would use the 2 3/8", but I'm not a pro....I do know Ipe' is pretty tough to screw through without first drilling with a drill bit made for that job. I think they make special screws that have a starter drill end on them. I will say the 316 screws are the best I could find as I'm on the ocean and they don't rust.

Per the Camo website, that is the manufacturer's recommendation for 5/4 decking.

Thank you for your CAMO question. If your deck boards measure more than 1" in thickness, then we recommend you utilize the CAMO 2-3/8" Edge Deck Screws. For Ipe decking, we also recommend using our 316 Stainless Steel fasteners, to prevent tannic reactions that may occur due to the acidity of Ipe. You also will want to pre-drill, due to the density of the deck boards and softer nature of the stainless steel fasteners. All the CAMO Marksman Tools will work with the CAMO Edge Deck Screws, regardless of screw length. Thank you for viewing this CAMO product! -Team CAMO

What size screw should I use for 1x6 (0.75x5.5) Garapa hardwood deck boards?
                  BySep 21, 2017
                  2 Answers |
                  Answer This Question

Thank you for your CAMO question. When installing 1x6 decking, we recommend you use the CAMO 1-7/8" Edge Deck Screws as they are designed for installing boards 3/4" to 1" in thickness. Please keep in mind, when using CAMO to install a hardwood such as garapa, we recommend you use the 316 Stainless Steel CAMO Edge Deck Screws. You can use the ProTech Coated CAMO Edge Deck Screws, but the tannin release (found in certain hardwood decking material such as garapa, ipe, mahogany, redwood, etc) and the acidity of the deck board may cause staining and streaking when a non-stainless steel fastener is used. Additionally, when installing hardwood decking with Stainless Steel CAMO Edge Deck Screws, pre-drilling is recommended due to the density of the decking material. This will allow for easier installation and an even cleaner look. Pre-drill instructions can be found on camofasteners.com, in the installation guide of your CAMO Marksman Tool or you can purchase the CAMO Pre-Drill Bit (model #0345035). well I don't know what Garapa hardwood deck boards are. I redid my deck 2 years ago with regular pretreated deck boards from home depot. I coated them with 2 coats of an oil finish before I installed them just to add extra protection. I used camo deck screws 1-7/8" x 7, 316 stainless steel trimhead plus the camo jig to guide the screws and space the boards. Every thing worked out well. It is time consuming to do it that way. It took me 4 weeks doing 4 boards at a time. I coated the boards as previously mentioned and let them dry which took a day for each set. I then removed 4 0f the old boards which was a pain because the old screws were eaten up by rust. A nail puller was used frequently. Installing the new boards was basically simple with the camo jig. I like the look of the boards with no screws showing. And, the stainless steel screws should last a long time.

                    Answer This Question

CAMO Hidden Deck Screws come in 1-7/8" or 2-3/8" lengths. The 1-7/8" is designed for use with deck boards that are 3/4" - 1" thick. The 2-3/8" screws are designed for use with deck boards that are 1" - 1-1/2" thick. The 2-3/8" screws can be used for installing the thinner deck board (3/4" - 1" in thickness), but the extra length is not required to ensure the board is properly secured to the substructure.

Camo hidden fastener system additional cost pros and cons.
I was unable to fairly review this product. The screws are very similar to composite decking screws; however the Camo hidden system requires you to purchase the camp edge guide tool at an additional $50.00+/- dollars as well as the bit for $6-&10.00 dollars. For the average DIY individual the additional cost may not be warranted for a one time use. I did try and simulate the angle of the camp tool and pre drilled the edge of the composite board. I found you need to be careful not to drive the screws in to far. This I am sure the camp tool and bit correct for you. The he screw system itself looks to be a nice alternative to face screwing your deck boards and appear to hold well. For the average DIY and not a contractor you may want to way the additional cost of the tool.

                      GOOD PRODUCT
I used 50 out of 100 screws to make a repair to my deck. I haven't wasted a single one. By using the right tool, these screws work perfectly. You can walk barefoot without fear of getting hurt because there is no trace of screws having been used on the deck. These screws will never rust because they are covered by a black protective layer that prevents oxidation and corrosion. Therefore, it does not matter if you use them indoors or outdoors. I recommend this brand and give them 5 stars. Exact size and strenght enough for the job.

                      Camp stainless steel deck screws
I have a box of the Camo stainless steel hidden deck screws. I quickly noticed that it requires a T-15 Star tool to screw them into the deck. Fortunately, I already had one of these in my toolbox. The screw went through the wood very easily. While I was able to successfully screw them into my existing deck it took a steady hand to maneuver. Camo does make a tool for this very purpose and I highly recommend that you consider getting their Marksman Pro tool from Home Depot as well. It will make your task go much more smoothly and accurately.

I didn’t have much of this product to work with, so I had to think of a project that didn’t require me to purchase extra materials. I decided to build a small deck area where we place our trash and recycling bins. Once I dugout the foundation and set the frame work I placed the 2x4 in the slots and proceeded to use the screws. I was done in no time.

Camo Trimhead Hidden Edge Deck Screws,1 7/8 inch,316 Stainless Steel, black and for use with the Camo Marksman System.
I like the Camo System, this system is a side mount on the deck boards with a Marksman tool and you have different size screws with lower threads to secure to the joist and upper threads to hold the deck board in place and the screws have a Protech exterior coating or the 316 Stainless Steel screws. My whole outside rear deck was installed with this system. The pictures I took are for repair of a curved wooden board. With this repair I had to use the screws on the top and sides to control the movement of this curved board. I will replace this board at a later time, wood boards do some strange things over time and out of about 75 boards, this is the only one that moved this much. When I replace it with a new one,I will use the side Marksman System so that no screws will be on the top of my board. This will prevent cracks and water damage from the screws. With the black stainless steel screws you have a limited lifetime warranty and years of service. The Marksman tool and the screws are all made of good quality material.

                      Universal composite decking screws
While designed specifically for CAMO hidden edge decking clamps, these stainless steel, black painted screws are universal in the sense they can be used as composite decking screws for non-CAMO clamps or for direct board-to-joist applications. Their skinny design and durable stainless-steel construction makes them almost undetectable in use. Reverse upper threads toss out board waste, a premium design feature.
