Q:The description says this wall plate is compatible with Cat5/CAT5e, but It does not specifically indicate that it is incompatible with Cat 6 Ethernet cable. It’s my understanding that they are very similar, so I was hoping this would work with the Cat 6 cabling in my house.

Answer This Question

A:  Yes it does. The color codes and connections of the 4-pair cables are the same. I understand that the 5/6 designation has mostly to do with the maximum LENGTH specifications for your particular application.

A:  This is NOT the way to terminate network connections. It will cause slow speeds and dropped connections. Buy an 8 pin keystone or an RJ45 modular jack. They have their own plates that they snap into.

A:  I used cat5e. As long as the cable has 8 wires it will work.

A:  This type of wall plate absolutely should not be used for Ethernet. This is only suitable for phone applications. For Ethernet you should use this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Commercial-Electric-Category-5e-Jack-White-5025-WH/206427940

Q:How is the incoming cable connected to the back? Just plug in or strip each wire and clamp on with screws?

        Answer This Question

A:  Strip the wire, wrap it around the correct screw terminal, and tighten.

        by|May 12, 2020

A:  Can't see the back, but the ones I have installed, you strip the wires and lock down under screws

        by|Jul 15, 2022

A:  you need to connect the wires, no plug.

        by|Feb 4, 2020

A:  Strip each wire and screw terminal. Old fashioned.

          by|Jun 5, 2020

A:  It is a strip each wire and clamp on with screws. There is a chart included to tell you where each wire goes.

            Poor hardware and product
The unit was labelled white….it’s actually off white and doesn’t match white standard decors plates The unit came with two screws, alu or crap metal, instantly stripped so use a stainless screw to prep new wall boxes or chuck the altogether….they are also very long, without electric driver don’t even think about using those The plate in one package did not properly stamp the screw indent do the screw sits proud, looks like junk….this product is poor, the connections inside worked okay but fiddling…why not use insert wire clamps??

Simple wall plate. Secured to the wall using drywall anchors instead of a box, much easier. Only complaint is how the terminals make installing and securing the individual wires a bit of a hassle. It's just the design. Instructions included were clear, but still not recommended for the average DIYer.

Not Color Coded to Cat5 Standard
Disappointed in this product. This is an RJ-45 (data) plate but it is not color coded properly. An Ethernet/Cat5e connection is comprised of four pairs of wires and they are attached in exact sequence in accordance with the T-568B standards: orange/white, orange, green/white, blue, blue/white, green, brown/white, brown. This is an RJ-45 receptacle but the color coding is for a telephone connection - red, green, yellow, black...
