1/4 in. , 3/8 in. and 1/2 in. Drive 6 and 12 Point Standard and Deep SAE/Metric Mechanics Tool Set with Case (142-Piece)

I was looking forward to getting this set of tools from Crescent. I own their Lineman’s, Diagonal, and K9 V-Jaw pliers that I use all the time. So, I was looking for the same brand experience when selecting their 180-piece Professional tool set. I’ll start with the items/features I liked best. Their sockets, combination wrenches, and two ratchets are well made. They have a solid feel and the Chrome plating is consistent over all the tools. The sockets are plated on the inside to help with clean up after using on oily, greasy projects. The rachets have a nice release button that holds the sockets securely. The socket walls are not to thin and should last a long time. I would be nice if the extension bars were locking extension bars like the other Apex Tool brand. This would be a great feature when working around an engine in tight spaces. With so many sockets why did crescent only include two rachets? (1/4” and 3/8” drives) This set needs a 1/2" rachet and 1/2” drive sockets for the larger diameter sockets. The Crescent 170-piece tool set has 3 rachets? The combination wrenches are great, they just need to add 3 more wrenches to this set. I would like to see a 1/4-inch, 9mm and 11mm wrenches added to this set. The set comes with Crescent 6” Diagonal Pliers, 6” Long Nose Pliers, and a 6” Adjustable Wrench. They are good tools but this is a “Professional” tool set. If you working with a bolt that is 3/4” at both ends and you can’t fit a rachet and socket over one end, you’ll need to find another combination wrench or adjustable wrench. I would replace the three tools with Crescent’s Adjustable Black Oxide Cushion Grip Wrenches in 6”, 8”, and 10” sizes? (Maybe 2 adjustable wrenches and a K9 V-jaw Pliers) The magnetic bit driver with 4 sleeves of bits is handy when you are trying to determine fastener sizes. The bit driver is magnetic but not the individual bits. This tool needs it own case! It would be nice to pick up a small case that contains the driver and bits. There are four screwdrivers included in this set. I would consider them more “General” purpose screwdrivers. The handles are made from an orange plastic that has a very smooth surface. (See Image of Bit Driver handle) There is a textured black material built into the handles, but there isn’t much of it and it isn’t as “Sticky/Grippy” as I would like. There is a hole built into the handles for using another screwdriver for increased torque, but I would have a hard time trying to get a difficult screw in or out with these handles. The two Hex Key sets are just to small. I have a ball end set that I have been using for years because the key handles are longer. I included a comparison image below. I don’t know how often most people use the Hex sets in general. But maybe there aren’t included in this set going forward? Lastly, the storage case! It is too big when opened and the sockets are hard to remove. I found myself using the slotted screwdriver to pry the sockets out of the case. The case measures 31.5” wide when opened. (See image below) If you occasionally work on a few projects around the house and don’t have a tool box or storage chest, you might keep the case. I am going to remove all the tools from this case. I have been looking for socket storage trays and small individual cases because I am going to break up the sockets by drive size. I can’t image hauling this case around. Instead of this very large molded plastic case, maybe Crescent can use one of their Tradesman Closed Top or 20” Contractor tool bag with plastic storage cases for sockets and matching ratchets. (Similar to a fishing tackle bag with removable plastic storage cases) They would have room for the extras included with the tool sets! Overall, I am recommending this tool set because the pieces that make up this set are very good tools. The only items I wouldn’t recommend are the Hex Key sets and the enormous plastic storage/carrying case.

All sockets are 6 point and feature feature off-corner loading as do the 12 point box ends of the combination wrenches. Almost any tool you would ever need is included. all pieces snap into their respective spots in the case for secure storage. This set is perfect for the car, mine will go into my pickup truck and stay there. Crescent has been making quality tools for many years and this set reflects their quality. A very nice kit!

Super quality tool set by Crescent. The Crescent tool set includes forty 1/4 inch drive tools, forty-six 3/8 inch drive tools, and ninety-four specialty tools. All 180 tools are set inside a tough and rugged tool case that latches at four points. It will not pop open unexpectedly. The latches are tricky to open and deal with when you close the set, but that’s worth it to keep this heavy set closed and the many pieces altogether. The tools are made of chrome alloy and steel. This is a very nice tool set by Crescent. It contains 180 pieces of both SAE and Metric. The ratchets, wrenches and sockets are all contained in a storage case. The case is marked to show you where each piece fits in place. The tools lock in the case and did not come lose while carrying. Made from Chrome alloy steel. Crescent is known for quality tools and these tools are no exception. I feel the blow mold storage case has many great features, but could use some improvement. The latches to open the case are located in an awkward position. It could be a tight fit for larger hands. I'm happy we chose Crescent. This is a great set to add to your tool collection. It's well worth the money.

I got this Cresent tool kit because my current tool kit was just SAE and more and more I need a tool kit with both SAE and Metric versatility. And this kit did not disappoint. The first project that came up was installing a solar panel mounting kit and it was all metric. I found the selection of tools to be fairly complete - there are fewer wrench sizes than socket sizes - and I was able to complete the project with the tools in this kit! The tool quality is equal to the best tools available. The chrome finish is perfect and unusually bright. The metric sockets are adorned with a ring of lines - like the edge of a quarter - that makes it easy to differentiate metric sockets from SAE sockets which only have a single line around them. The carry case is much better quality than usually seen in a tool kit; the tools generally stay where they were designed to stay. Overall, I am confident that this tool kit will handle almost any project I run across at home.

This set is ideal for use in my vacation home. While the set is not professional quality, the quality is high enough for occasional use when needed around the house. The case is sturdy and compact, providing convenient storage for the tools. Having both metric and standard sizes in a wide variety ensures I’ll have the right tool when the need arises. With this set I won’t be worried about having to borrow from neighbors or running to the hardware store for minor repairs and assemblies

I have to say that this set is really awesome. It’s the perfect set to either keep in your car/truck or around the house I’m keeping mine in my Jeep . It comes with sockets and two ratchets then you get a bunch of different wrenches and one adjustable wrench some screwdrivers needle nose pliers and wire cutters , and an assortment of different screwdriver bits and Allen wrenches for practically any job you’re doing. This set is really great everything fits perfectly nice case so nothing gets lost. The price is extremely reasonable for what you’re getting and of course the quality because it is Crescent is top notch. Home Depot has a couple of different sets by Crescent so if this one is a little too much for you there are others you can check out that are made by crescent on their website and of course in store. This is a set worth picking up.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product. Very nicely packaged in a heavy duty case, opening in the center and using 4 strong latches. Plastic molded space for each tool keeps things neat & in their place - conveniently carry from one spot/ location to another. The shape of the box wrenches and their handles are similar to Snap-on - easy to grip, manipulate and light weight. Ratchets are similar to Craftmans shape & style. The sockets go on & off with ease. The Allen wrench sets go from very fine and up on SAE and the metric.

Very nice combination of basic everyday tools for the tool collection. Made in Taiwan and Limited Lifetime Warranty is also a plus. Handle grips fit nicely in your hand. The plastic case that houses this array of tools is also rather nice. It not only clips and locks together, but each tool actually locks into place within the box. Once closed and locked it carries well.
