Autumn Amethyst Encore Azalea offers vibrant year-round color to any garden. Autumn Amethyst features dark lavender blooms, lustrous green summer foliage, and attractive purple winter foliage. University trials have shown it to be one of the most cold-hardy varieties of the Encore Azalea line. Unlike many traditional azaleas, Encore azaleas bloom best in full sun, so choose an area of your yard where they can receive at least 4-6 hours of sunlight. Autumn Amethyst works well in foundation plantings or as a low growing hedge. Be sure to plant your Encore Azaleas in acidic to slightly acidic soil to maximize your bloom yield. Fertilize in the spring with a balanced fertilizer after the threat of the last frost has dissipated and feed once more in the summer to help you Encore bloom through fall. Encore Azalea is the world's best-selling multi-season blooming azalea. In many areas of the country, Encore Azalea bloom during 3 seasons of the year-spring, summer, and fall. And, for areas of the country where azaleas don't traditionally thrive, such as those in USDA hardiness Zone 6 and 7, you will see a spring or summer bloom, but not a fall bloom before your temperatures drop.

For Autumn Amethyst Encore Azaleas, spacing is typically recommended to be about 2 to 3 feet apart when planting. This spacing allows enough room for the shrubs to grow and spread, ensuring they have adequate airflow and access to sunlight while avoiding overcrowding. Proper spacing also helps maintain the health and vigor of the plants, reduces competition for resources, and enhances the overall appearance of the landscape. With this spacing, Autumn Amethyst Encore Azaleas can form a beautiful and cohesive display of vibrant blooms in your garden.
Hello Spacing. Thank you for shopping the Home Depot. A mature Azaleas can reach a height and width of 48”x48”. I would space them about 3-4 feet apart so that you have a separation between your mature Azaleas as long as you plan on timming them each fall or early spring. If not, then a spacing of 4-5 feet would we advisable. Rick_HD_ OC
The Autumn Amethyst can be placed in a container for the first year, after that the nutrients needed to maintain the life of this plant will not be sufficient in a container.
The planting zones of Colorado are any where from 2b to 7a. Without knowing your specific location I can not answer as to if this plant will survive where you are. The Autumn Amethyst is favorable for planting zones 6a-9b. Your soil level of 7.5 is just slightly on the alkaline side. The Autumn Amethyst prefers slightly acidic soil. If you are able to grow the Autumn Amethyst per your specific planting zone, I would recommend adding two inches of Sphagnum peat moss to your soil.
We would recommend at least covering your plants during spells of harsh winter with a tarp or burlap. If your temperatures are going to be getting much below the recommended growing temperatures(10° or below) or going to be receiving a lot of snow/ice consider moving your plants inside a garage until the extreme weather has passed. Don't cover your plants for the entire winter - They do still need to receive sunlight and water throughout the winter to survive. Your plants when ordered online will have a 90 day guarantee
Either Spring or early to mid-fall.
