The description says there is mesh as well as the plastic covering, but not very many photos. can you zipper down the plastic and leave mesh up? can you easily remove the covered enclosure and put it back on easily? Can you sometimes have just the mesh on without the plastic enclosure?

Can you plant carrots in this? I read that you need at least 12 inches of soil for carrots, and this is 8 or 9 inches deep.

How does the optional cover attach to the raised bed?
An easily assembled frame fits on the top. Cover ties onto frame. Opens with zippers.

Is there wire on the bottom for drainage?
No. The bottom is made of three boards with room for a gap between the boards for drainage.
There is not any wire but the slats of wood act as a drain. We provide a fabric mesh that is used to go on the bottom of the table

We used 2 bags to fill it.
Can you plant tomatoe plants in this unit? If so, how many plants>
as long as the unit is filled to top with soil and you have solid support for the fine they will do well here. I would keep the pruned to allow the netting to cover them to protect fruit from birds.
Soil depth is about 9-10 inches so as long as the plant does not require a greater depth you can. I have used mine every year for tomatoes with great success. Since all plants are different you need to refer to the spacing requirements/recommendations on the plant cards. Personally I plant one on each corner and then low growing vegetables in the middle to avoid dealing with stakes in the center.
We haven't but our friend has the same Eden garden table and they are growing 6 plants in it.
