Do you need to be certified to buy this product
    ByDec 17, 2024
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

No. You do not have to be certified to purchase. You will have to be certified prior to performing an installation. Your inspector may ask to see your credentials prior to signing off on your installation. In order to become certified to install our HOME-FLEX CSST You must read our entire HOME-FLEX System Design and Installation Manual. Remember, all installations are to be performed in accordance with your local plumbing codes. If there is ever a conflict between the D&I manual and your local code, you are to follow the more stringent. Here is a link to the Installation Manual https://cdn2.assets-servd.host/fixed-puma/production/HOME-FLEX_Installation_Manual.pdf After reading the entire manual, you can register. Can this be surface mounted ? Or does it have to be in side of the wall ??
      ByNov 29, 2024
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

Hi, Timmy - Yes it can be surface mounted depending on the application. For instance, if used outdoors, it must be encased in a watertight non-metallic sleeve to protect it against crush and the environment. We suggest you review our Design & Installation Manual available at homeflex.com/resources. Thanks.

What is the difference between Model #11-436525-005 and Model #11-436435525-005 other than price and fittings?

            Answer This Question

Darren - The "436" has 2 male fittings; the "436435" has one male and one female fitting. Retail pricing (which is set by Home Depot) is odd. We'll bring it up to their management to review.

              Answer This Question

No, Charles, this CSST gas tubing is not already bonded. It must be done with a #6 (or fatter) copper wire back to the grounding buss bar in the electrical panel. Hi, Jon - No, not directly. It must be in a watertight, non-metallic conduit (such as a PVC pipe) that is at least 1/2" larger ID than the OD of the CSST. This was a good product. Saved me time and headache working with the black iron. It might have costed a little more than the Black Iron. I deducted a Star because the Home-Flex website (where you have to go get certified) was horrible with broken links. They also advertise parts they don't make any more (like the Tee) which was very frustrating as I planned what I was doing based off of what they said was available on the website.

Really made converting my back yard barbecue and fire pit a breeze. Make sure you install a shut off valve between the tubing and hose. All hoses leak gas under even low 1/2 pound gas pressure Just ask a welder. Don't do this if you aren't 100% sure what you are doing. Double check all connections for leaks. To change from propane to Natural Gas use a jet kit or you can just drill the propane jets 30% larger. Exactly like drilling carburetor jets. Never leave the gas valve open if you're not using the gas. I always close the gas valve off and let it burn out at the barbecue or firepit. Then I go close the valve on the barbecue and /or fire pit.

Do not pay attention to the negative reviews of this CSST. If you have an issue with leaks after installing this product it is more than likely becasue you did not follow the instructions and that is no fault of the manufacturer. On every fitting that you purchase there is a sticker that reminds you to follow the instructions and those instructions are included with every fitting! Not to mention several online videos and a free istruction booklet right next to all the products! I installed 25 feet to feed a gas dryer and it was 100% leak free the first time (pressure tested for 24 hours to verify). I have no issues with this product and if your looking for CSST that works then look no further.

                      Easy install
When my wife and I decided to remodel our kithcen my wife wanted a gas oven. I was not looking forward to removing the bulkhead in our finished basement just to run the black pipe. When I found home flex I got excited. The whole install took only two hours. I fished the csst through the bulk head and connected both ends with no leaks. Were is the easy botton?

                        Absolutely no issues
I redid the gas lines supplying the dryer, range, water heater and furnace with these fittings - no leaks no issues. I did use a file to smooth any burs and rough cuts before attaching the fitting. Also as indicated in the instructions you only turn the nut, not the center part of the fitting when tightening - this keeps the non-metallic gasket from being cut up by the tubing as it compresses. No leaks at all.

                        Easy to do
I needed to pull the pipe through tight space under the house and hook up my heater and oven. With Home Flex it went fast, its easy to put all the fittings on, its clean. You need to be careful not to cut yourself as the edges of stainless steel tube are razor sharp and don't forget to ground the pipe to avoid lighting damage.

                        Nothing but Leaks
Alpha Flex (now called Home Flex) is a horrible system. The pipe is good, but the connection system was not well thought out. There is only one non-metallic washer that seals against the stainless steel pipe. Out of the six connections I made, I could only get one to seal so no bubbles appeared when performing the leak test. I cut off several connections and tried again. When I disassembled the connections, everything looked smooth, but yet they still leaked. A couple connections were obviously deformed. When tightening the connections, the pipe folds back on itself and is supposed to create a smooth seal against the washer. I can appreciate the ingenuity of the system, but in four words: IT DOES NOT WORK! I could not tighten the connections enough to stop the leaks. I purchased Pro-Flex connectors from Lowe's and they are much better and easier to use. They come with a thick silicone washer to seal to the connector. I made an airtight connection on the first try. You also don't have to tighten the connections as much, just hand tight and then another 0.25-0.50 turn more.
