We provide The Home Depot with many of there coolers, so i get this question or a version of it a lot. Electrical items that are certified for out door use have what is referred to as a NEMA rating. As part of that certification process they expose electrical items to very extreme conditions. Think on an ocean pier, unprotected in the middle of a hurricane. This unit does not have that. They make ones that do. You typically only sea them in government installations like state or federal parks. They are tens of thousands of dollars. So the simple answer to your question is no. However I have seen these used in out door applications all the time. For example I donated one to the municipal golf course in my town. It was installed outside the pro-shop under an overhang. It is protected from direct sunlight and rain. It is taken in every winter as I live in New England. It has been in service for four going on five years without a problem. I would ask your electrician for there opinion of your specific installation spot before proceeding.

Both of those questions are addressed in the owners manual. In case you have misplaced it I will give you a link to it here. http://www.halseytaylor.com/pdf/1000001728.pdf
