Protect your family with the Kidde Firex Smoke Detector, Hardwired with Battery Backup, Smoke Alarm. The hardwired, ionization Kidde Firex Smoke Detector, Hardwired with Battery Backup, Smoke Alarm operates on a 120-Volt power source with a 9-volt alkaline battery backup. Using ionization sensor technology, the Kidde Firex Smoke Detector alerts to invisible fire particles, even during power outages. The Kidde Firex Smoke Detector, Hardwired with Battery Backup has green, constant LED light that indicates AC power is connected. Red LED blinking lights flash for standby, if the alarm senses combustion, fire, or smoke, alarm memory if the alarm is activated, and hush mode. UL Certified with a 10-year limited warranty. Meets requirements of UL217, NFPA72, The State of California Fire Marshall, NFPA 101, FHA, & HUD.

Q:Are these compatible with the kn+cope-ic smoke/co alarms
by|Jun 26, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hello. Yes. The brackets will be different and you will have to change out the mounting brackets at each location but that will just take a screwdriver to change out. However, this alarm is just a smoke alarm and not a smoke and carbon monoxide alarm.

Q:My smoke detectors are not going off in sequence? I did replace 2 as a result of a power surge and there is a Carbon detector in the upstairs hall. Can you please advise what model number will work with the carbon detector, I think I may start from 0

    Answer This Question

A:  Hello. A power surge can feed AC power on the neutral line and burn out the interconnect circuits of the alarm so they can't interconnect anymore. If that is the case, you may need to replace the alarms that won't set off any other alarm.

      Q:Is this a direct replacement for I12040?
      by|Jun 17, 2024
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  Hello. Not the direct replacement. The direct replacement would be the I12040A model 21006378. This model would work and have the same wiring harness plug. The mounting bracket would be different but changing out the mounting bracket should only take a screwdriver and a ladder.

Q:I only need 3 interconnected alarms. Can I use the other 3 in this six pack WITHOUT hardwiring? Can they work as battery only and for how long? Thanks
        by|Jun 16, 2024
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  Hello. No. The battery is just a temporary backup for short term power outages. The battery might not last 6 months to a year. Also, the alarms would not be able to interconnect and communicate without the 3 wire circuit.

Easy installation and all 6 working properly
These replaced 10 yo kidde firex smoke detectors. Base plates did not match but easily changed out because 2 screws in ceiling electrical box spaced the same for both base plates. Just loosened screws and changed out base plates. Connecting plugs from old detectors matched new ones so didn’t need new plugs. Came with batteries installed but I put in new alkaline 9 volt batteries.

            Please read before installing...
As sold, I found it nearly impossible to secure the smoke detector to the base plate. You are supposed to push it on and twist to lock it. If you aren't paying close attention you will think you have it locked on. It will appear fairly secure, but it isn't locked in. What you need to do is remove the rubber gasket on the back of the smoke detector. I point to it with a red arrow in the attached photo. You can pull it out, but you might want to use a razor to prevent some of the paper label from ripping as you remove it. One you remove the rubber gasket, you will be able to twist the detector into the base properly. The gasket is totally unnecessary, it is a very tight fit without it. I hope this helps some people.

Hello. It is meant to be a tight fit but easily possible if you push firmly as you rotate. If you have issues again, please call us instead at 1-800-880-6788 with pictures of what you are talking about. We can resolve such issues and we strongly recommend not modifying our alarms.

Simplest replacement of any home repair items I have. The alarm connection plug fit perfectly with my existing wired smoke alarm system. I really like the model I selected with backup battery access on the front side of the alarm so I don't have to remove the alarm from the ceiling and unplugging it to replace the battery. Simple and fast online ordering.

My Kidde Fire X Smoke Detector was easy to install. I really liked the easy access to the battery with the front load battery access. It has all of the features you look for in a fire alarm. I would highly recommend this product.

The installation was an ease. The hard wire option is the best and simple instructions to understand. It took about 5 mins per unit.

I have had these for a little over a year, maybe 16 months. They were easily to install. The battery is not hard to change (yes, despite being hardwired, I have had to change the battery in them). They do alert you, and they are loud. They will wake you up at 3am. They will also alert the neighbors (they text me to tell me my house was beeping). Unfortunately, they alert me when it rains, not when there is smoke. I can't leave my garage door open or they will go off.

              Hello WakesMeUpAt3AM,
Typically, Nuisance alarms, particularly in the middle of the night, are caused by something interfering with the sensor. These units are looking for particles of combustion, so when a small insect or piece of dust gets into the sensor (*located inside of the unit) the unit will interpret this as smoke particles. We recommend using compressed air, through the side vents/ bug screen and blowing out/cleaning the alarm really well. If you continue to have issues, please call product support. 800 880 6788

This multi-pack represents a good price for a proven product. However, I was very disappointed when I opened the package because: - Yellow labels are attached to the battery doors with full strength adhesive. It takes five minutes per unit to remove all of the residual glue. - The included batteries are zinc-carbon rather than alkaline, and contain lead (meaning they should not be placed in regular trash). Since most consumers probably don't recognize the tiny warnings, the batteries create an environmental hazard. The good news is that I can just plug in these new units to the existing bases.

Our 11 year old fire detectors were not interchangeable with the new FireX detectors, but it only took a couple minutes to rewire using the new wiring harness included with the new set. We installed 10 units in about an hour and a half. The units have a great top-loading battery compartment and the check and quiet buttons are also right on top. Having a wide mounting collar against the ceiling eliminated any need for touch-up painting from the old ring. Its ionization sensor feature is a big comfort.
