About This Product

Coolguard is a powerful, high performance 100% acrylic elastomeric roof sealer that uses Thermaflex technology to significantly reduce interior temperatures. The Thermaflex formula contains tiny insulating micro-spheres that dramatically increase in size as the temperature of the sealer rises, which prevents heat from being absorbed by the surface. This single-component acrylic urethane product reflects UV rays to reduce heat and provides a single monolithic layer that waterproofs and insulates the surface. It applies and dries ultra-white.

Hi RonR, for your type of application which is to cover the architectural shingles, we don't recommend to use the roof coating, instead you can use Lanco"s Dura-Life Clear.

I just installed a new aluminum roof on my RV and used Eternabond tape for the seams. Would the new aluminum or the Eternabond tape need to be primed before applying Coolguard?
          ByApr 16, 2025
          1 Answer |
          Answer This Question

Hi MikeD, for your new aluminum roof on your RV you do not need to use a primer before applying the Coolguard Roof Coating, just make sure it is completely clean and dry. For the cleaning we highly recommend Lanco's Roof Restore. Please follow instructions and leave on the roof the 15 minutes it suggest before removing.

Can I use Coolgaurd on a black rubber roof? If so, should it first be primed with your aqua product?
            ByMar 26, 2025
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

Hi FRM87, for an EPDM rubber roof, I recommend using the Coolguard or Urethanizer as they are specifically designed for roof applications and provide excellent adhesion and weather resistance. These products usually do not require a primer, but if you want extra adhesion, you can use the Aqua-Proof (MD863) as a base coat. Before applying, ensure the roof is clean and free of any debris. Apply the product with a brush, roller, or sprayer, following the manufacturer's instructions for drying times and number of coats. Typically, two coats are recommended for optimal performance.

Hi Don21, Coolguard is typically not recommended for concrete driveways. Instead, you should consider products specifically designed for concrete surfaces that offer durability and weather resistance.

Worked GREAT on 20' Shipping Container in Florida
I bought a 20' storage container in January and noticed the internal temperature began to exceed 100F in late February/early March. I installed vents on March 15th. During hot weather, the container still reached 109.4F. I coated the roof with Coolguard on April 10th. Despite record high temperatures in my area since then, the temperature of the container has not risen above 99F since coating the roof. I watched the Lanco video where it says that 1 gallon covers 25sq feet so I bought multiple gallons. It only took 1 gallon to apply 2 coats and I rolled it on using a roller not much different than I would paint a wall in my house albeit I tried to apply it thick. In my mind: the container is water tight so I don't need a seal, I just need the reflectivity. Steps to apply: 1. Sprayed roof with bleach solution 2. Pressure washed (I actually used a surface cleaner which made it super fast) 3. Allowed to dry and rolled on the Coolguard See attached thermal images and photos. The temperature inside the container is 10-15F cooler since I applied the Coolguard. In the one photo, you can see where I did not coat an area pending removal of some decals. This gave me an opportunity to capture side-by-side thermal data. The uncoated area is much hotter than the coated area. I will update if I have issues with durability. It is holding up well so far other than staining from leaves and bird droppings which has not impacted reflectivity yet as far as I know.

Put on 4 coats to 200 SQ. Ft. RV Roof.
I got 4 coats on 200 SQ. FT. RV roof with just one 5 gallon bucket. 1 gallon still left in bucket. Works perfectly. Applied one coat of primer first. Also cleaned roof before primer. Also used roof cement before primer on low spots.

                      Very impressed. **Use Primer**
Overall very happy with the final product! Will definitely use again. Definitely better sprayed than rolled on can get thinned easily. Much better protection when thicker.

                        Amazing
I bought three 5 gallon buckets to do my permanently placed RV roof and our renovated “shed” shingled roof. I read all the reviews first so there was some very good tips about what kind of roller and how it should be applied thick and not like painting a wall. It absolutely decreased the temperature inside significantly so my Mom ordered four 5 gallon buckets and I did her roof as well. It went on easier on the RV roof. I probably should have applied a different Lanco roofing product to the shingled roof first and then this product after because the shingles soaked up the product so much that the coverage area was not the same as the rv. If you live in the desert, I highly recommend applying this to your roof. We have prepaid electric , a box in our kitchen tells us exactly how much electric we are using per hour , per day etc. I did two coats on the RV roof and just one on my Moms roof and the per day electric has gone down 3$ a day so far. We live in Arizona and it’s been 100 degrees for the past few days. Can’t wait to see how much we save when it’s 120 degrees all summer.
