About This Product

Let Lutron's Maestro Occupancy/Vacancy Motion Sensor Switch turn the lights on and off for you. This sensor is a simple way to save energy and add light automation to any room of your home, turning lights on when you enter the room and off when you exit. It features XCT (cross-correlation) sensing technology to detect fine motion, such as typing at a desk or reading a book, to ensure lights won't turn off inadvertently when you're still in the room. It also learns your preferred natural light level and keeps lights off with smart ambient light detection. Program your lights to turn off 1, 5, 15, or 30 minutes after you leave the room. Alternatively, you can set the motion sensor to vacancy-only mode to only turn off the lights when you leave a room, to meet Title 24 requirements. Great for many locations such as bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchens, and garages for added convenience and energy savings. This sensor works with any bulb type, including LED bulbs. It matches the entire Maestro product family line (sold separately) to give you a complete and coordinated look in your home. Install using the ground wire if no neutral is available in your home.

Highlights

    1. After about 1 month, it still turns on every time I enter the room, regardless how bright ambient light. I switch it off, and it goes back on several times without learning anything. What is the problem? 2. How to change to Vacancy mode?

    Answer This Question

Hello Yury, thank you for your questions. We are sorry to hear about the difficulties you have experienced with your Maestro Motion Sensor. If Ambient Light Detection (ALD) mode does not seem to be learning your commands, we recommend factory defaulting the device and attempting to have it re-learn your desired ambient light thresholds. As for Vacancy mode, this can also be adjusted in device programming. See pages 5 and 4 of the below document for instructions on factory defaulting the device, then re-programming its sensor mode, respectively: https://assets.lutron.com/a/documents/048461.pdf We hope this helps! If you require further assistance, our 24/7 support team is here to help. We can be reached at 1-844-LUTRON1 or via email at support@lutron.com.

            Answer This Question

Hello Nell, thank you for your inquiry! MS-OPS2 manual switch will override the sensor at any time. When the sensor has been manually triggered to turn the lights off, there is a 30-second grace period before the sensor can detect motion to turn the lights back on. If you still have questions or concerns, contact our Support Team at support@lutron.com or 1-844-LUTRON1.

Will this keep the lights on if someone is in the room reading without moving? Is motion required to keep the lights on or is an infrared variance enough?

                  Answer This Question

Hello OnanSalad, thank you for your inquiry! The Lutron Maestro occupancy sensor switch combines a Maestro switch with a passive infrared occupancy or vacancy sensor. The sensor detects the heat from occupants moving within an area to determine whether the space is occupied. Based on the feedback from the sensor, the occupancy sensor switch will adjust the load accordingly. For more questions or concerns, contact our Support Team at support@lutron.com or 1-844-LUTRON1. We're here 24/7, you can call us any day or anytime.

Many appreciate its adjustable sensitivity and timer settings, which enhance convenience and energy savings. However, some users have experienced issues with sensitivity and the need for a ground wire, which can complicate installation in older homes. Overall, the product is well-received for its performance and design, making it a popular choice for automating lighting.

A great addition to laundry room. Because the motion sensor has such a wide angle of view, it sensed movement in the adjoining kitchen. A small strip of black electric tape over a portion of the sensor solved the problem. The family loves the convenience of this automatic switch.

Easy install and simple programming but depth could be an issue
Easy to install and timer setting programmable by holding down the switch and releasing based on simple to understand flash sequence to set time out period (1 flash for test mode, 2 flashes - 1 minute, 3 flashes - 5 minutes, 4 flashes - 15 minutes, and 5 flashes - 30 minutes). For sensitivity or ambient mode that requires removing the wall plate to access a lever that has to be depressed along with or independently. A plastic housing and a little deep so ensure the connections are secured and gangbox is deep enough for the space required.

                    Questionable QA, limited settings
Thought I got a bad unit but turns out the PCB was just installed upside-down by factory. Pic is how I found it. Flipping PCB fixed it. -2 stars for poor QA and limited settings (shortest timeout is 5m, want ~1m)

                      These Sensor Switches are Great
These occupancy sensors are great they work properly and save energy installation is not too hard. I installed mine in my bathroom but have more around the house. The only thing is mine can’t see through my shower glass since it’s privacy glass so I set the timer to 15 minutes so it won’t turn off when someone’s in the shower. Other then that it’s great.

Oh my gosh. These have changed my life. When my arms are full and I need the light on, I no longer have to reach for it. It’s automatic! Especially helpful in pantry and garage. I love them.

                          Super Convenient
Installed in my closet and I have never been happier. The joy of just walking into the closet and having the lights turn on is great. In fact, I enjoyed them so that I purchased some more for around the house and the garage. It just has been wildly convenient to have them installed in strategic places such as the closet and garage. Installation was a breeze and took about 5 minutes. After that, the motion sensor just works. It is able to switch between the motion sensor mode and the vacancy mode. Vacancy mode is pretty cool, it allows you to manually turn on the light but it will stay on as long as it senses movement and turns off when it doesn't. It also senses ambient light so that when it is too bright outside it won't turn on, which is 'trainable'. Overall, very happy with Lutron and the motion sensor.
