Is this product a duct or an insulated duct sleeve? I intend to use this to replace flexible ducts that connect the trunk of the HVAC system to the floor registers. The installation instructions are not clear if this is a specified use of the product.

Can I use this duct to insulate aluminum ac duct by just pulling it over the metal
                  BySep 11, 2022

                  Answer This Question

It is not recommend to be installed over existing duct. You may need to insulate the pipe with Duct Wrap or an Insulted Duct Sleeve. These are designed for your situation.

Is the insulation labeled on outside as required by some building codes?

                    Answer This Question

Do not remember exactly. There is "R8" labeling somewhere, but not everywhere which means inspectors might not be able to see it.

No labeling outside. The only thing it has is one 3x4 inch sticker stuck to the side that contains the manufacture info and the R8 value.

Mislabeled box. 7" duct instead of 6"
I'm not sure what the deal was (if someone switched the label or manufacturing error) but the box I bought had a 6in label on it and the ducting ended up being 7in. Unfortunately, I did figure this out until I dragged the box up into the attic and opened it up. At that point it just wasn't worth it to drag it back out and try to cram it all back in the back (it basically springs out once opened). I made it work, but it was still frustrating and made the project just that much harder. So try and double check the sizing of the ducting before you get too deep.

Easy to install with a screwdriver, knife, and wire cutter (needle nose pliers for the wire in the outer shell). It insulates the inner tube from the cold attic in the winter.

Product is durable and easy to work with.
I ordered two. Product is durable and easy to work with. After shaking and pulling, both were 22 ft long not 25 ft. I really missed the extra 6 feet but made it work. I got 2 10" also both were 25ft. Tip:I recycled all the insulation from the old flex duct .

Relfective lining comes off easily especially when you are working in tight spaces to retrofit old ducts.
