About This Product

Cheer Drops Arborvitae from Proven Winners displays bright green evergreen foliage with a teardrop habit. It creates more architecturally interesting hedges and foundation groupings. Prune to shape if desired in late Spring/early Summer, after the new growth has emerged. Avoid cutting into any very thick stems unless you are removing them entirely, as this can leave an unsightly hole in the plant, and recovery from such cuts is typically slow. Once established, Arborvitaes require little to no maintenance. Fertilize every Spring with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food.

Highlights

  • 10 ft. to 18 ft. tall and 6 ft. to 10 ft. W at maturity

Questions & Answers

I want these to grow around 6-7 ft tall only. Is there a way to achieve this with out trimming every season?

Answer This Question

Hi Mike Thanks for asking! Cheer Drops® Arborvitae will reach 10-18 feet tall and 6-9 feet wide at maturity. Little to no pruning is required. If you do wish to prune, do so in late spring/early summer, after the new growth has emerged. Avoid cutting into any very thick stems unless you are removing them entirely, as this can leave an unsightly hole in the plant and recovery from such cuts is typically slow. Hello Alex! This is a great question. While we don't have it listed as harmful to animals, we always recommend checking ASPCA.org for any plants you are purchasing, to make sure that they are not harmful to your animals! I hope this helps! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at 734-654-7485! Kind Regards, Allie at Proven Winners Direct

How far apart should you plant them in shade? I want them to create a privacy wall in my backyard
      ByApr 19, 2024

      Answer This Question

Hi Makaela, Thanks for asking! Cheer Drops® can reach 10-18 ft. tall and 6-8 ft. wide at maturity. You’ll use the plant’s mature width range as a guide to determine how far apart your plants should be. If you like the look of a steady line, use the minimum number of the mature width range as your planting distance. Position the centers of each plant that number of feet apart (6 feet). If you’d still like to see the general shape of the plants, use the maximum number of the mature width range as your planting distance. Position the centers of each plant that number of feet apart (8 feet). As always, please feel free to reach out to us at any time with any plant questions or concerns. Hi Linda - Great question! Cheer Drops® Arborvitae spacing should be 72 - 96. Little to no pruning is required. If you do wish to prune, do so in late spring/early summer, after the new growth has emerged. 1 Gal. Cheer Drops Arborvitae (Thuja) Live Plant, Shrub, Green Evergreen Foliage I want to keep this Zone 3 Evergreen in a 3 feet planter permanently? Any tips and tricks?
            ByMay 11, 2023
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

Arborvitae do best in well draining soil that is consistently moist and cool. It responds best in full sun but can grow in some light shade. If browning occurs during drought periods, water weekly for best performance. Although it tolerates a wide variety of soil pH, Cheer Drops will thrive best in a neutral soil with an average pH of 7.0 to 8.0, slightly alkaline. It will tolerate heat and drought conditions well once established. You typically will not need to fertilize arborvitae, an application of a well composted organic material is all that may be needed. Amend heavy clay soils to improve drainage. As always, please feel free to reach out to us at any time with any questions or concerns. I twine my emerald arborvitae every winter to avoid damage from wet heavy snow. Does Cheer drops grow the same with multiple vertical branches? I want more fast growing privacy greenery that does not require twining every year. Suggestions?

                Answer This Question

Hi PattyJean- Thanks for the question! Cheer Drop is going to naturally hold it’s fun shape without pruning or shaping, so I think this might be what you are looking for! While heavy snow could potentially do damage to all trees/shrubs, I think you’ll enjoy the upright habit and minimal care required with the Cheer Drop! If you have any further questions please reach out to our customer service team at helpdesk@provenwinnersdirect.com
