First let me say I am not an expert on sliding glass doors. Now I have fixed both mine and my son"s sliding door by using the track repair. All i had to do was clean up the track area add a little caulk and bang the piece over the old track with block of wood and hammer. In both cases the door slides like new. Hope this helps.
If your door sticks in spots when trying to open, and you can see some damaged spots in your track, it sounds like what I had on a lanai sliding door. The cap you have tagged here goes over the top of your old track, repairing the surface. You should notice a big difference once it's installed if that is actually the problem. It took care of mine.
Most likely the flat part is the problem now. You don't take out the old track, you put this on top of the old track.
No you just put it over the existing one with a silicone sealer to keep it down. Mine was very damaged and now works like new. Definetly reccomend this product.
Thank you for your inquiry regarding this item from Prime-Line Products. The track cap needs the original track rail to be there so the cap can fit over it. If your original track has flat spots, they will have to be repaired by using a epoxy compound into a rounded shape. The repaired spots need to be similar in size as the original rail so the cap does not flare out in those spots.
Thank you for your inquiry regarding this item from Prime-Line Products. I am unsure of your question. Are you asking what is the inside dimension size of this item? If so, the inner width is 3/16" at its widest point. My rollers worked fine , only problem is glue to hold down track was pretty torn up, I have pocket doors so used 2x4 to pound on track
I used this stainless steel track cap to repair my sliding glass door since the old rail had developed too many bumps from so many years of use and sliding the doors back and forth. This is the SIMPLEST and most ECONOMICAL repair. The sliding door works perfectly and took less than 10 minutes to repair track without removing or replacing the old one. I highly recommend this product as a quick and excellent repair to any damaged sliding door track.
Thank you for your inquiry regarding this item from Prime-Line Products. No, the bottom does not touch the bottom of the track. The dimensions are shown under the image showing +3. It is 3/16"W x 1/4"H.

I was unable to get this to fit so I ended up purchasing a new track https://www.reflectwindow.com/products/sliding-glass-patio-door-track-8
Interesting that you have this problem. I've used these caps with great success. I haven't seen this failure. You may want to use epoxy that's mixed and applied with a gun. It's commonly used to install anchor bolts in concrete. Alternatively, consider using gap-filling construction adhesive. Gap-filling adhesive isn't common on store shelves, so you may need to do a bit of hunting. This adhesive is easy to apply with a generic caulking gun, and it's thick enough to stay put without running everywhere. It'll take several days to harden, but once it hardens, it should fill the gaps and bear the weight of supporting your cap. While it dries, use the door as little as possible.
Could work with a filler like epoxy. Important the cap sees no weight until the filler is completely set or the door will squeeze out the filler and the bumps will be back. You should however expect some squeeze out when you install the cap at the high (undamaged) sections of the track. When you install the cap, it needs to be as level as possible so consider a 4' or longer level or very straight board to lay on top of the cap and push or tap the cap on. You are right, the filler needs to stay in place during install. but also not run or seep out before it sets. Consider products like JB Weld which you knead the two parts together and is like stiff play dough. Also a high grade adhesive in a caulk tube like Loctite PL Premium Max would be a possibility. Good luck
Thank you for your inquiry regarding this item from Prime-Line. A new cap fill not fit over an old cap on top of the original door framing track. What you suggest should have been done first before installing the other cap. Use a new cap at your own discretion.
Sand the bump smooth with rest of the track. Then use JB weld putty stick to tightly mold into the indented parts of the track. Some overlap is okay. Sand to conform to the rest of the track. I left it at this and has lasted 7 years. Or tap on a new cap
I filled track with silicon caulk. Recommend grinding existing track to smooth before installing stainless track on top & fill w silicon.
