Summarized by generative AI from text of customer reviews

Customers say the Ryobi 18V string trimmer is lightweight and easy to use, making it a suitable choice for light to medium yard work. Many appreciate the convenience of the automatic line feed feature, although some find it leads to excessive line usage. Battery life varies, with most users recommending higher capacity batteries for extended use. Overall, the trimmer performs well for casual trimming tasks, but some customers express concerns about the durability of the line feed mechanism and the need for frequent string replacements.

                  Poor design
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After an hour's use, the original line was gone and try as I might, I could not figure out how to replace it. Very poor design. P.S. I love all my other Ryobi tools, but this one will end up in the trash.

                    Trash
Absolute trash. Had it for a year and it just stopped working. I took it apart to find that one of the wires was broken. Unfortunately it broke in such a way that reconnecting them with a shrink solder or soldering of any kind is not possible. See photo for reference.

                      Grass Shield (Guard)
The first time I used this the line cutter failed to cut the line and it blew apart the plastic shield. I sharpened the cutter with a file and it works fine now but I'll need to replace the shield. This is a part that needs improvement by making a sharper line cutter or a metal shield!

This is the lowest priced Ryobi trimmer. It doesn't offer a lot of power, but it's a decent trimmer for $70. The last one lasted about two years. Run it with either .080 line ( the green twisted works best). It was delivered by FedEx, and they delivered to the wrong house. Whoever got it just kept it which is par for the course in today's society. I walked the neighborhood , but couldn't identify the recipients porch from the delivery photo. I filed a complaint with FedEx and the BBB, which accomplished nothing. HD responded that as a courtesy, they'd refund me this one time. Wait what? If FedEx misdeliverers another HD order, I'm on my own? Not very comfortable with that policy.

                        String Gets Caught in Motor
This is the 3rd time (and 2nd weed wacker) where the string loosened on its own and got stuck inside the motor. One time i was able to get it out. The 2nd time it blew the motor and i had to purchase a new one. I figured it was a fluke but 2nd machine it happened again, and this time its within the return window and im never buying this brand again. Get a real weed wacker instead

String melts to itself on spool
I have had two spools out of six work correctly. I spend more time fixing the line than weeding. The line trimming blade also snapped off after about 20 minutes of use. The convenience of the 18v battery compatibility isn't worth this hassle.

                              Questionable Durability
It bricked. It stopped working. This was used as a back-up trimmer for 5 months out of the year for a small yard. I bought it because the batteries are compatible with my other Ryobi power tools. I'm beginning to re-think the ONE+outdoor tools. You can watch all of the online reviews that tout them as an inexpensive, non-commercial product, which they are, but reviewers rarely talk about durability, i.e. how long will it last? Even though this is a low-end, low powered trimmer, there's an expectation that a product will more than a couple of years and won't quit mid-job.

I will never know how the product did. It was damaged by shipper. Came to me in a different box, pieces missing and the shaft taken apart to fit in a box that was not original. Home Depot customer service was excellent and took it back for refund without any question. I give high ratings to my local store customer service.

                                Drains battery and line
Strong wacker. Its a little heavy for extended use and the handle hurts the hand as you have to continue to hold the trigger. 1 18v battery is not enough. I have 2 batteries, 1 charger, and have to switch out three times during use. I have a small, like 3000sq foot yard all fenced in. Its ridiculous. I went through 1 spool over two mows because it auto feeds. Get you the bigger battery or multiple and buy a pack of line. Much stronger than the black and decker i had though. Win some lose some.
