About This Product

SPAX MDF & Finishing Trim Screws are engineered for precision, strength, and clean finishes in woodworking, carpentry, and interior trim projects. Designed to prevent splitting in dense wood, MDF, Medium Density Fiberboard, hardwood trim, baseboards, door jambs, and cabinetry, these screws offer reliable holding power and professional-grade performance. Ideal for fine woodworking where appearance and durability matter most. The razor-sharp 4CUT™ point eliminates the need for pre-drilling, even in dense MDF or hardwoods, helping prevent splitting and ensuring clean, accurate fastening. Paired with SPAX’s patented thread serrations, these screws drive faster with less effort—reducing torque, easing strain on power tools, and extending battery life for professional installs. The low-profile small trim head with cutting ribs and nibs allows the screw to countersink flush, delivering a clean, professional finish in visible applications like cabinetry, molding, and fine furniture. The T-STAR plus drive system offers superior bit engagement. Tested and recognized for use in untreated and above-ground pressure-treated lumber in interior dry or damp environments (AWPA UC1-UC2), offering exceptional versatility across indoor projects. From cabinet installation and furniture assembly to molding and millwork, SPAX trim screws are trusted by pros and DIYers alike for their performance, durability, and ease of use.

Questions & Answers

Shear strength for 1/4" steel brace? If I use these to bold a flat 1/4" steel plate with 4 #8 holes to the side of a 2x8... what's the max sheer load I can put on this plate?

Answer This Question

Thank you for your question. SPAX has published properties data on our website for the #8 MDF screw, detailed in our Technical Evaluation Report TER-No. 2010-02. However, please note that this data is specifically for wood-to-wood connections. Unfortunately, we do not have specific load values for steel side-plate applications, and therefore cannot provide a load value for this particular use case.

          What Customers Say
Summarized by generative AI from text of customer reviews

Customers say that Spax screws are highly effective for working with MDF and other materials, often eliminating the need for pre-drilling. Many appreciate the unique T-STAR plus drive head that prevents cam-out and enhances engagement with drivers. While some users noted occasional defective screws and a preference for more length options, the overall performance and reliability of the screws have made them a preferred choice for various projects. The packaging, however, received mixed feedback regarding accessibility.

Super strong screws perfect for interior projects.
These screws are absolutely perfect for cabinets and tables and other indoor projects. It’s essential the combination of screws used for redwood decks with high quality screws for precise cabinet work. They have a unique tip that grabs the wood and pulls in the threads in making it super tight. The threads definitely are going to hold the wood. It has a nice countersink so the surface will be flat as the screw is pulled into the wood level with the screw top. There are only two minor issues which are easily addressed. The box is difficult to open and also hard to close as the tabs are somewhat bulky. You can cut the tabs and make them curved so the cover folds nicely into the box. Secondly it has a T20 head which requires the use of the T20 bit which is included. But the T20 bit is at the bottom of the box so you have to dump them out to find it. A nice pro-tip is to take some cardboard and make a tip holder at the top so you can find it and put it back. This is the standard T20 approach used with redwood deck screws. The main advantage is the drill and bit holds the screw better than a philips head. I will definitely look for these types of screws for projects.

          No more split frames.
I'm impressed with these zinc coated Spax screws. They have features that facilitate split free driving with a flush or countersink. The T-STAR plus drive head makes it easy to engage with your driver. I use them on my custom frames for my paintings. The pieces that I work with usually split easily, but not anymore. It's nice to not have to pre-drill and struggle with the countersink.

Product was the exact size to what I needed but would have preferred to yellow zinc chromate finish.

I love Spax screws. They are my preferred brand. The T-star+ bits fit snugly for the smaller sizes, even better than regular Torx, and I've never had them cam out or the screws break. They are a little more expensive, but I think they're worth it.

          Missing The Most Important Part
It doesn’t do me any good to have a box of screws when the drill bit promised with the purchase isn’t in the box.
