Nothing is better than lush, green grass. Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Food is a fertilizer that feeds and strengthens your grass to help protect against future problems. This fertilizer also builds strong, deep roots and improves the lawn's ability to absorb water and nutrients (vs. unfed lawn). Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Food can be used on any grass type. Apply the product to a wet or dry lawn. We recommend using a Scotts spreader to apply this product. For Scotts broadcast/rotary spreaders, use a setting of 3 ½. For Scotts drop spreaders, use a setting of 6 ½. For Scotts Wizz, use a setting of 3 ¾. If fast results are desired, lightly water the product in after application; however, watering is not required. Return unused product to original container, and sweep any product that lands on the driveway, sidewalk, or street back onto your lawn. While Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Food does not inhibit seed germination, and therefore can technically be applied anytime before or after seeding/sodding the lawn, it does not help it as much as a Starter Lawn Food which contains phosphorous. Due to the lack of Phosphorus in our lawn fertilizers, we strongly recommend using either our Scotts Turf Builder Starter Lawn Food for New Lawns, Step 1 for seeding, or Triple Action for Seeding when initially seeding. I did a curbside pickup today because I have 2 kids. My bag I got is discolored from weather and hard as a rock. Is this how it’s supposed to be? If this product gets prematurely wet is this an issue? Is there supposed to be an exp date on the bag?
We're sorry that you were disappointed in the consistency of Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Food. We are always striving to develop the best possible products on the market. Should you feel clumping in your next bag of Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Food, you may want to drop it on the cement once or twice in order to break up any particles before opening the bag. If there are still lumps, you can break the lumps up by hand. Be sure to wear gloves when doing so. The clumping of the product will not alter the effectiveness of the product. Unfortunately, it is caused by moisture that gets into the bag, either during the manufacturing process or during storage at our many retail outlets. Over the years, we have spent several millions of dollars trying to eliminate this problem through improvements in both our manufacturing plant and through packaging improvement. While the situation has improved considerably, we still have some way to go, and we are continuing to work on it. The bag will have a lot code which will tell us when it was manufactured and help with expiration, this lot number is on the back of the bag at the top.
