Hi Cory, NO, the motor is not submersible and should not get wet. Do not let the motor go into the water

How low can this pump take the water down in sump pit? I would also like it to start when water reached the 9 inch level in pit. Is this a good sump pump to meet these expectations? Is it quiet? Thanks, Scott

will this pump fit into a 5 gallon plastic bucket? Thanks

        Answer This Question

I had a pedestal sump pump that did fit inside a 5 gallon pail but was not this one and I think the float ball was smaller. I don't know it they, sump pumps, are all the same size. If this does fit I would be concerned that the float ball might get hung up inside the bucket so it wouldn't raise to start the pump. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

The configuration of the output and the float make the overall width to wide for a 5 gal bucket. If it is possible to rotate the float switch to the side it would make it fit a 5 gal bucket. I have not tried this myself, but it would be improvement, Other than that it is a good pump.

Hi there, It will fit but it might be a tight fit. Be sure the float ball is not rubbing on the side of the bucket where it can become stuck. Thanks

Better pump dimensions; I would like to know the distance from the bottom of the pump base that would sit in the bottom of the sump pit to the BOTTOM of the motor housing. I want to install a radon mitigation system using my sump pit and I want the motor outside of the pit enclosure so that the motor and electronics are separated from the area where there could be water and moisture. Yes, I know I will have to seal around the pump pedestal; I will be adding better sensors and controllers than a float ball so that is not an issue.

From my recollection with 80% confidence, it is about 34 in to the top of pump. So take 8 in off you get about 26 and to be safe, assume it is 22-26in

Probably 8inches of water. As long as the bottom of the pump is submerged it should be ok

The OFF level is about 4 in (fixed) and the ON level is adjustable. Since the switch lever travels about 3 in, the ON level can go from minimum 7 in to a max about 14-16 in (my estimate)

Our sump pump rarely turns on so I have little actual experience to go on. However, I just went down and manually moved the shaft with the ball at the end and it appears to travel about 6" before it activates. The actual water level will most likely be several inches higher than that when it activates since the bottom of the ball does not actually rest at the bottom of sump when the sump is dry (it is a couple of inches higher than that) and the water level will probably need to rise a few inches before the ball will begin to move. FYI, our sump is approximately 27" deep overall and we have never had the sump overflow.

Hi Bill, This pump would need 3-4" as the min depth to turn the pump on and off at about 2 1/2" depth Thanks

You can adjust where the pump will start by moving the slides up or down on the rod for the ball float. I don't know what the least amount of water depth would be.

I don't think there is any bearing in the water. The motor is on top and a long drive shaft goes to the bottom connecting to a spinning blade (see manufacture pictures)

It is a metal bearing. It's all metal construction.

I don't know what type of bearing is in the water. I've had this sump pump for several years working in my garage and have had no problems. As long as the metal float rod stays straight it works fine.

I'm pretty sure it is just a bushing not a ball bearing.

This is the finest, most feature-laden pedestal pump I've ever owned! Unlike thermoplastic pumps, this Superior cast iron pedestal pump is way better! It's drive shaft and housing, impeller, float rod, float ball and switch lever are all stainless! The pump housing is heavy cast iron for long life/stability. A bar surrounds the float switch to protect it from damage. The power cord is 180º away from the switch so it can never jam it. Need quality/durability?? Then you gotta buy this sump pump!

This pump seems to be well made. It's top-heavy, so I braced it to the wall with strut. In case anyone is interested in using a battery backup, I'm attaching a picture showing the motor load through two typical cycles, pumping 6.6 gal/cycle.

Worst warranty ever. The impeller broke after only a few months use. You can see by the picture the metal was clearly defective. The metal isn’t bent or ripped. It a clean break. Called about getting a replacement part and they said oh that’s not covered. They show 12 replacement parts that can be ordered. So what do they warranty for 5 years. Also made in China!!! Absolute junk. They don’t stand behind their warranty.
