Answer This Question
A: MDF is not ideal for bar/kitchen tops or bathroom applications. Any exposure to moisture or humidity will cause it to warp or degrade over time. Better to either use a pre-made butcher block top or baltic birch plywood that you can seal (food-safe).

A: MDF isnt great for moisture, the slightest bit of water will typically cause it to expand. HOWEVER there are companies that do make Exterior Grade MDF which can be soaked and dunked in water and be just fine w/o expansion.

Answer This Question
A: Paul, You can use 3/4" MDF for shelving, however please be aware of the weight of products and moisture as the MDF is not sealed.

A: Yes. Make sure you have adequate support as MDF has less flexural (bend) strength than ply or solid wood. It is however much denser and perfectly flat which would make a solid smooth shelf. Melamine sheets may also work well for your application.
