A:  I've read they do this, but I've always bought this whole and cut it up myself. Don't know how accurately they would do it, but they certainly have the right tool. You really have to ask them--it will only take a phone call.

Q:I'm building a kit trailer & wish to use this as flooring. Is this treated for weather or will I have to apply some sort of a sealant to protect it as it will at times be parked outdoors? If I have to seal it, what is recommended to use? Thanks.

A:  I've had/built trailers with most floor-types. PT ground-rated 2x6 with Behr Deck-Over paint has best grip, durability, longevity, aesthetics, and serviceability. Ply/steel sheet for hauling sand and mulch. Flat steel mesh for low-weight/high-strength.

A:  I used this MDF as a top to my work bench and I sealed it with 6 coats of OIL BASED polyurethane (yes it took 6, since the first 2 soaked in and nearly disappeared) and have been using it now for almost 2 years. No dents or chips and I use it frequently; pounding, nailing, sanding, etc.

A:  What you are working with is basically saw dust glued and compressed. I would suggest a hard wood trim edge molding glue to the mdf. Depending on available space I would use an “l” shaped trim brd.

A:  Derrick, You may use T-molding, which is widely used in the office furniture and food services industry to protect the edges of desks and tabletops to name a few uses. I found an example of the t-molding on the Amazon website. The use of this T-molding will require a slot to be cut in the center of the board. You may also lumber band it by cutting a piece of wood the width of the MDF (and as thick as desired) then glue the lumber banding to the edge of the MDF. To ensure impact resistance for the lumber banding a hardwood would be preferred over softwood.

A:  Nadddae, We have customer who use lasers to make patterns in the MDF, they do not cut it with lasers. We do not manufacture 1/8" MDF. You should get approximately 24, 12" X 16" pieces out of 49" X 97".

                                      by|Jan 20, 2023

A:  Yes, this can be cut with a laser. Fire retarding MDF would help prevent fires if using low power laser with slow passes, but regular MDF will do fine. In regards to, "Is this equivalent to 1/8?" No. This is 3/4" thick. You should be able to get 24, 12"x16" panels from a 4x8 sheet.
