Great electrical bill saving.
I'm happy with my decision to buy the ecosmart water heater unit. I'm replacing it after 10 years of use. Saving me a lot of money in the monthly energy bill. To maintain the water heater the technician from an electrical company recommended to install a water treatment filter for thankless water heater. The city water in my area has a lot of quimical ingredients and this damaged my old ecosmart water heater because it was not protected with a filter.

I purchased this mini tankless to go under my kitchen sink. My house is a long bungalow and my regular tankless water heater is at the opposite end of the house. I wanted something instant, so I didn’t have to run cold water for long periods in order to get hot water. It works perfectly! Love the dial temperature setting so you can easily adjust if you initially set it too high or too low. Absolutely silent. Can’t believe I didn’t do this years ago!

House nearly caught on fire due to this unit
House nearly caught on fire due to this unit, research shows many have had same problem, the heating elements start leaking in a few years, and short out the hot to ground on 1 or more of the three heating elements.

Bad and Good
Lasted 37 months and the small crossovers started leaking! Was great to have hot water all the time.... Until we didn't! Started leaking at one of the small vent tubes and quickly progressed! Would not recommend it for reliability.

The heat fluxuates. I constantly clean it and today it is barely luke warm. Very disappointed. I want my money back!!

Perfect Water Heater
I installed this back in May of 2018 and still works like a champ with zero issues and have not done a single maintenance on it. But to be fair I also have a water softener which I'm to assume goes a long way towards preventing limescale build-up.

SAFETY HAZARD, DO NOT PURCHASE
The heating element of the unit caught on FIRE and created damage to the house. Luckily we smelled the burn and saw black smoke which prevented from burning down the house. I called EcoSmart three times and they just told me the unit was not under warranty. It is not the issue that the unit is not under warranty, the issue is that the unit is NOT SAFE and could have been a dramatic event if I was not lucky enough to see it. Totally unacceptable!!! DO NOT BUY, SAFETY HAZARD.

It blew up in three years
The Eco Smart company was no help. The unit was not in use at the time of the explosion. If I had not been home at the time the entire house would have flooded. They suggested I buy a new one after telling me it was not repairable. I followed the recommended maintenance schedule in the manual. I let them know that I would never be buying another Eco Smart product ever. $500. plus dollars for a water heater that lasted three years. No thanks! I will buy from a different company.

May I suggest another brand?
FOR ANYONE CONSIDERING THIS BRAND...I purchased my house 2 years ago, this is what we had installed. Two days ago, I found the unit leaking by the inlet temperature sensor was located so I contacted the manufacturer. I was told that I should have been doing yearly maintenance on the heating elements which includes removing them and soaking them in vinegar. This is not in the manual, which simply states to inspect the inlet and outlet values yearly.

I have been using it for about 3 weeks now...
I have been using it for about 3 weeks now as a heat source for my garage radiant floor heat. Its a 700sqft garage with about 700ft of 1/2 pex in the slab. I keep the garage at 55 when im not in there and kick it up a couple degrees when needed. I have doubts on how long it will last but we will wait and see.
It does use a lot more power than expected. I can hear a couple light fixtures buzzing when the heater is on but it is drawing a ton of amps so that is to be expected.

Happy Customer
EcoSmart 27 was easy to install and works well. I had an 80 gallon tank that failed. The water temp is great and reaches the far end of the house at temperature in less than 45 seconds which is about the same as the old tank system.

Good Product
the o ly problem is my tub has 1/2 pipe and heater errors out. I fixed this by throttling input to heater. used pec pipe. easy install. lots of continuous hot water w/o constant temperature adjustment. Electric was 3 40 Amp double pole breakers using 8 awg wire. works great

For Newer Homes, it's magnitudes better than Rheem
I’m a new home builder. The inline flow restrictor is a godsend! I put this unit in ALL the homes I build. All purchasers of my homes rave about it, even years after returning to a home for other issues unrelated to this water heater.

EcoSmart makes a good tankless water heater. The EcoSmart 18 supplies my 1400 square foot home with plenty of hot water. I also purchased a small EcoSmart 8 which my Westinghouse 9500 watt generator will accommodate in case of a electrical outage. With it I can take hot showers and have hot water for washing dishes in case I need it. I purchased the two tankless water heater’s and the Westinghouse generator from Home Depot. I am very pleased with their service and products.

This is my first time with an on demand type water heater. It seems to work good so far. It is well made and compact. Wasn't hard to install using a Watts installation kit. The one big problem I had was with leaks at the inlet nipples? Took me many times to get it to stop leaking! Instructions say not to use Teflon tape or pipe dope, it leaked at both connections. I tried tape, they leaked. I tried pipe dope, they leaked. I tried special pipe dope with gasket product (Block), both connections still leaked! I left the dope on and added 4 layers of yellow Teflon tape (thickest tape) and cranked down again, Finally no seepage, YEAH! Still holding. My solution
would to have longer nipples on the water heater? I notice when I took connections apart there was only about 3/8" of threads being used in female coupling that attaches to the heaters male connection, with fittings tightened to the fullest??

Installed this as a alternative hot water system during the Summer months in combination with preheated solar water system. Works perfectly as designed. Installed 5/1/2021. Goal was to eliminate the oil burner operation/dependency during the Summer months. It is installed after the preheated solar water. Very easy to install, very easy operation, but I'm a pro. My tip...make sure to install a way to "descale" it if you have hard water/water softener system. When incoming water temps are "hot" unit uses very little electric. On a good day water temp got to 115 deg, with unit set to 110 deg it uses NO electric.

Great tankless electric water heater and the best customer service!
I bought this unit three years ago and it worked great until recently it sprung a leak. So I called customer service and they were amazing! Within an hour I had a new unit on its way via FedEx to my home! Two days later the new unit arrived. The warranty on this is the real deal and that’s what’s very important with these type of wireless tanks. I know they do they do not last as long as your standard hot water tank but that’s the trade-off. You get fast unlimited hot water but it won’t last 20 years. But with this warranty and this great customer service this is the perfect product! Very happy with this purchase and dealing with this company.

Leaks at the element tank.
Careful, mine started leaking and instead of repairing it they say "Oh , you have to disassemble the unit, pull out the elements and soak them in vinegar and replace the o-rings - annually"! And by the way, the manual that comes with it fails to mention that. So go pay a plumber to do all this for you.. They do not stand behind their product.

Burst after 10 months
This was my sixth unit and it too failed within one year of installation. We’ve gone through six of them due to failures and having to keep with the same model for replacements. Previous replacements had issues with the heating elements or temp sensors going out but this time the heating element separated from its threaded cap. We woke up to find 2 inches of water in our bathroom and closet, along with drywall damage because the heater was located in the attic. After thousands of dollars worth of damage, it wasn’t worth it to exchange this unit for another one of its kind. I instead purchased a Rheem heater, and to my dismay it is identical internally, down to the same exact part numbers. Eco-smart warranty is nonexistent, so don’t plan on the manufacture helping you out. If you have already purchased this unit, it is in your best interest to establish some sort of extended warranty or home appliance warranty, this unit will fail it’s just a matter of when. I would also recommend installing an aluminum drain pan designed for tankless heaters, you can order from Home Depot for about $60.

The best feature of this water heater is the temp control. It is great to take a shower and not have the water go cold on you. The only issue is that it does not have the electrical cable and you do need to open and install the electrical connection. The installation instructions are not clear on how to connect electrical cable. If you do not know how to connect 250VAC and ground, may be in trouble. ,

ECO 18 Consistent failures within the last 10 years
After having the ECO 18, I’ve had consistent failures about every 3 years with minimum usage. The unit is installed inside of a 3/3 townhome with 2 occupants. Lately, it stopped working again, meaning no hot water! This is the third time. To me, it’s too many compared to the conventional and others in the same category.
Originally I’ve chosen Eco Smart due to the positive reviews and indication of high quality internal components; however, if the info were true,I should not be having so many failures so often.
I also know a coworker with the same model whom also had a failure few months ago inside of their home.
This make and product is NOT recommended.
