Algae vs Sun Shock Ionizer 1 – 0 I used it for 4 months. It does not work (in my 20,000 gallon pool.) After 1 month of use, there was no difference in chlorine use since installing the Sun Shock Ionizer. As soon as I let free chlorine drop below 3.0 ppm, algae cover all walls and stairs within one day. This is no different than before using the ionizer. The ionizer receives 10 hours of sun every day (I’m living in Southern California and it’s tethered to the sunny side of the pool.) The Ionizer operates (a test in a glass of water shows bubbles that look like mist and the coil is showing scale.) I have cleaned the copper anode every week. I did not use any algaecides before or since using the ionizer. The copper test strips never showed copper above 0.1 ppm. With the Sun Shock Ionizer still in the pool, I added copper algaecide over the next 4 weeks and increased copper to around 0.2 ppm. Result: no more algae. One month later, copper fell again below 0.1 ppm. The Sun Shock Ionizer doesn’t even maintain the copper level. After another month, the test strips don’t even register any copper anymore. I’ll use liquid copper algaecide from now on. (This will save me time cleaning the ionizer very week, and let me tell you, it’s a dirty job.)

Simple to put together but I had to Google how to do it. I also tried to register it but couldn't find serial number on the box as the instructions stated. My pool is clear now Ann's I just need to get a better pump and cleaner for the pool!

I have not gotten rid of the algae yet but I'm sure this anodizer will be a great investment.

I am using sun shock for 2 weeks straight and the water in the pool is chrystal clear. Did not use any other chemicals for 2 weeks.

I have had this product in my South Florida pool for about 3 months. I bought it as an alternative to the weekly addition of 5 gallons of chlorine during summer months. It has worked as promised. I keep chlorine pellets in the pool, but I do not need to regularly add liquid chlorine. Apparently, the copper is maintained at a concentration that is toxic to the algae.

Great product... Works as depicted, Pool is crystal clear water now and even after the week of rain every day ...NO ALGAE! Amazed not being told of this product until a friend informed me of it.

I have to admit I was skeptical at first but figured I would give it a try. The first three weeks, I remained doubtful as I had some algae on the bottom and test strips were not showing any copper reading. However by week four I was totally sold on this! My chemical usage has been cut in more than half, I do a shock treatment after a lot of rain, which we did have for the first three at four weeks of pool being opened, and after there have been a lot of swimmers. I add liquid chlorine every two to three days, about a half gallon and my pool has never had a better summer (I have been a pool owner for 28 years). The water always looks sparkly clear. There is one slight drawback, if you have blonde/whit/grey Or chemically processed hair, either wet your hair before going in pool or be sure to use after swim shampoo as the higher copper content in the water will give your hair a slight green tint. It’s more noticeable when hair is wet, less so when dried. Personally, I am willing to deal with that and absolutely will never go another summer without my pool ionizer!

This ionizer works as advertised! I've been fighting an algae problem since I bought this house in October. Chlorine level had to be above 5 or 6 for me to have a chance at a clear pool. Now with this unit the levels can go to 0 and still no cloudiness or algae as long as I keep the electrode clean. If I notice the pool getting a little cloudy I clean the copper and within a couple of hours it's clear again. Definitely worth the money .

I don’t like having to scrub the copper electrode weekly. It gets stuck in the skimmer and for my pool that means it’s in the shade with no sun light to power the device. Also the instructions say the device is working even if the test strips don’t.

I've had the unit in my pool for about four weeks (in South Florida) and it appears to be working well. I keep my slow-release tablets of chlorine going as well, though I do not know if I need those. I have not added liquid chlorine since introducing the unit. I notice too that I have fewer ants in the pool each morning; I leave the pool pump off overnight. Perhaps they do not like the taste of copper. Life is easier in terms of cleaning the pool.

I bought two of these units as my pool’s volume is on the cusp of 22,000 gallons. They worked liked a charm. By late summer i removed one of the units as it was not needed. I also kept a chlorine float with two 3” chlorine tablets. Everything was great through the first season. As winter came, i removed the remaining unit from the pool and put it into dry storage along with the other. Fast forward to today...i have had the units in the pool since early spring and only one of the two units seems to be working. The brand of these units has changed from Remington to Sun Shock, since my purchase, and the warranty on the current product is only 90 days so its tough to say whether or not i have any recourse. On a side note, i also spent $60 on replacement anodes a couple of weeks ago, so there should be no issues. I have no idea how a solar panel goes bad, but for one of the units, that’s the case. These are affordable up front, in my opinion however, they dont stand the test of time.

Love these, I bought this one because my previous one died. Love not having to buy and lug jugs of chlorine and all the other chemicals. I highly recommend these if your pool is sunny for six hours per day.

I have not had to put any chlorine in my pool for 4 weeks. The water is crystal clear. The kids are not complaining that there eyes are burning. Best part no more going to get chlorine. Love it.

This little gadget works great. I have a 15,000 gal DE pool in Yuma, AZ. I started getting Black Algae. The chemicals from the local pool store did not work and I could not scrub it off. This little toy started controlling it right away to where there is no new algae and I can scrub the old algae away. It will take some time to get all of the algae out. I have to clean the Ionizes once a week and scrub the pool once a week, BUT now I have it under control!
