When you're beginning to leap into a DIY project, you might not have the specialty tools you need in a garage or workshop. Don't let that stop you when you can stop by The Home Depot Tool Rental Center in Intown (Richmond).
Tool Rental
Our tool rental options enlarge your toolbelt with the precise tools you need to complete your project. It's not necessary to purchase a specialty tool when you're not using it at least once a week. When you're looking for a new tool, do a trial run first before you decide which to buy. Whatever your situation, we have just what you're looking for.
Rent Post Hole Diggers, Shop Vacs, and Floor Sanders
Tackle serious jobs with reliable power tools. Get your garden bed ready for spring with a tiller rental or ensure fresh sod lays just right with a sod cutter rental. Construct a new fence around your home more efficiently with a post hole digger rental, then use other concrete tools to securely set your fence posts.
Make Painting Easier with Ladder and Paint Sprayer Rentals
Make the most of longer spring days and paint outdoors. Rent paint sprayers to get optimal coverage and work much faster than you would with a brush or roller and a paint tray. Rent scaffolding and ladders to reach high surfaces when painting fences, houses, and sheds. We carry extension ladders and step ladders for medium or smaller jobs, so you won't have to wait when you're ready to get that job done.
Truck and Cargo Van Rentals
For transporting large tool rentals or anything else, we keep trucks of all kinds on hand. Although availability varies by store, we've got a selection ranging from flatbeds to pickup trucks to cargo vans. You're sure to find the right size for your DIY project so you can keep your timeline running smoothly. As your source for DIY jobs of all sizes, it's smart to make us your go-to source for truck rental as well.
Box Truck and Penske Moving Truck Rentals
If it's time to relocate to a new home, we can help with that as well. Explore our rental box trucks. We also offer Penske moving trucks in sizes ranging from 12-feet to 26-feet, but as always, availability varies from store to store. Our box trucks have different sizes and rental requirements than Penske moving trucks, so check out the FAQ or speak to an Orange Apron to ensure you find the right rental truck for you.
Large Equipment Rentals
Complete expansive projects with the right professional equipment. Our large equipment rentals give you the power you need. From the boom and scissor lifts to give you a boost to the mini skid steers and excavators for hauling materials, we've got a surprising variety of equipment available. If a large equipment rental could help you, explore and see what we've got in stock.
Although we're mentioning specific tool, truck, and large equipment rentals, our rental center may not have everything on hand for your required time frame. If you've got a particular item in mind, please contact your local rental center to see where you can pick it up.
How do I rent large equipment, tools, or trucks?
Stop by the Rental Center at your nearest Home Depot to see what tools or trucks you can rent. If you'd like confirmation before you drive there, call first to inquire about a truck, tool, or large equipment. You could also check out our truck rental or tool and equipment rental pages to see if what you need is offered at your favorite store. For more details on renting large equipment or tools, read these Tool Rental FAQs, which includes terms and conditions for the equipment.
Can I rent tools or large equipment by the hour?
Tool rentals and large equipment rentals start at four hour time slots. Simply choose the length of time that suits you. Small DIY jobs may only require a rental for a few hours, and we can accommodate large projects as well. You've got options to rent tools by the week, month, or day, too. If you need it longer than what you signed up for, call your Rental Center to arrange an extension and avoid late fees.
When do I return the tools?
You're welcome to return the tools early if you finish your project ahead of schedule, but on-time works, too. Just make sure to bring them back by the deadline listed on your rental paperwork. Please clean off mud and grime from the tool as well. If you need it longer, give the rental center a call to see if you can extend your rental period.
Can I rent a truck for a few hours?
Rent a box truck, cargo van, or pickup truck for as long as you need it. For short trips, 75 minutes might be enough time. Otherwise, consider renting it by the day or the week, depending on the length of your project. Be sure to factor in the drive to and from the store, as you'll need to bring it back to the same store you rented it from. Penske moving truck rentals allow round-trip options as well as one-way options, and they have different terms. Be sure to read the terms and conditions before selecting a vehicle.
Do I need to refill the rental truck with gas?
Yes, please fill up the truck before you bring it back. Match the amount of gas that was in the tank when you got the rental. When you don't refill the rental truck, you'll have to pay a penalty known as the fuel replacement charge.
Do I just need a driver's license to rent large equipment or a truck?
No, you must hold a valid driver's license and be over the age of 21. Depending on your state, you may require car insurance, as well as a credit card hold or a deposit, too. Please bring your credit card for Home Depot truck rentals, as we don't accept cash. Penske moving truck rentals have different requirements, so read those if you plan to rent a Penske truck. Large equipment or select tools also require ID verification via CLEAR.
Do I need to go get my rented large equipment from the store?
Depending on your location, you may be able to get large equipment delivered and picked up from your job site for a reasonable cost — whether that's at your home or out in the field. We'll need at least 24 hours notice so we can adequately prepare your rented equipment and you'll need to rent it for a full day. In places where delivery isn't available, speak to an associate for the ideal way to get your large equipment.
What are some ways to avoid extra fees and penalties on rented large equipment?
Treat your rented large equipment as any other vehicle: Make sure it's parked legally and you obey traffic laws. Read the manual so you're using it correctly to avoid damaging the equipment or injuring yourself. Also, plan ahead to ensure the equipment is ready when you are, as cancelling within 12 hours of delivery means you'll incur a cancellation fee. Make sure to return equipment by the deadline or extend the rental period to accommodate the extra hours or days you require.
