Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting CFLs, lead acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, and plastic plant pots for recycling.
Our stores sent approximately 5.3M pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This has helped the planet by preserving over 63.5K trees. It kept over 16K trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saved over 50M gallons of water, and conserved 7.8M kilowatt hours of electricity.
Since 2010, we have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our customers and associates. This commitment extends beyond our stores to the environment and our communities. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our commitment to economic responsibility.

Should I get an inverter generator or a portable generator?
Having a generator means you're prepared for any circumstances Mother Nature throws at you. Whether you're dealing with hurricanes, tornados, or strong winds, a portable generator lets you enjoy electricity after the elements knock it out. When browsing generators for sale, remember that portable generators cost less and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're heavier and louder. Always run your generators outside, away from doors and windows, for safety purposes.
Should I do siding repairs now?
Ready your home for spring temperature swings by repairing or replacing broken parts of your home and hardscaping. If water freezes in the crevices, you could be in for major repairs down the line. On the outside of your home, examine metal roofing panels or roofing shingles for rust or damage that could let water in. Clean gutters to prevent ice dams if you're prone to frozen precip as the seasons change. Check brick and cinder blocks for cracks. Indoors, ensure ceiling tiles are free from water damage and missing pieces. Lastly, replace vinyl siding and chimney caps if damaged.
What are the benefits of doorbell cameras?
Enjoy peace of mind, privacy, and safety with a wireless or wired doorbell camera. No more peeking through a nearby window or peephole when you can watch human or animal visitors in real time. Some doorbell cams even let you chat remotely via your phone, which is useful to scare off potential porch pirates or talk to delivery people. Most cameras integrate with your smart home app or hub to give you flexible accessibility. Choose to save video clips for future reference as needed and worry less with more control.
