A: Get on your computer and look up Angie's list. Look up a carpenter in your area. Have him come out, give you an easement and some referrals. Call and see if they were happy with his work. I honestly think this job is over your pay scale. Plus your cost for tools, mud, paint and all other little things. Plus your first job....It might cost close to the same price plus look a hole lot better.....Good luck with your job.....Dae

Q:Can I use this as a ceiling in my kitchen I want to replace the tiles

A: Probably not because ceiling joists tend to be either 16" or 24" apart. If yours are 16", one edge of your 2' x 2' piece of drywall would have no nailing surface. If the joists are 24" apart, you'd only be able to nail them on two edges and they'd likely sag.

A: I couldn't lift a full 4' x 8' sheet (I'm a 60-year-old female), so I cut it in half in the store and took both pieces home. The cashier didn't seem surprised so I guess I'm not the only one who's done this. It meant an additional seam in the wall I was repairing, but it looked fine and saved me $700 by doing the job myself.

A: Hello marlin25,
If i understand you correctly the drywall has already been replaced and your looking to clean up the area around it. If that is the case you will need drywall tape, drywall mud, taping knife, and sandpaper.
Begin by taping the joining seams over with the tape. Use the taping knife to apply the drywall mud across the taped over seams. Begin finishing the repair by sanding the mud smooth to the ceiling. I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Chris

A: Hey onthejob,
I realize these are smaller than the larger 4 ft. x 8 ft. versions, drywall really isn't a suitable base for tiles.
Since you are starting from scratch, I'd recommend you to use 3 ft. x 5 ft. tile backerboard panels. Not only are these rated for a base for your tiles, but you'll be guaranteed a great installation.
We carry these at your local store, and you'd get the thicker 1/2" boards to go over bare studs, and never drywall.
Once you install the backerboard correctly, you can easily install tiles for your backsplash over them.
To learn more about backerboard, refer to the link I authored regarding how to install it and why it is important to use below:
