A: Hi Andy, this is McKenzie from Simpson Strong-Tie. The SD Connector Screw is designed for use into wood however I don't have any specific information on your application and how well the design would work. Please take a look at our load tables to see if this screw would meet the required loading needed. You can find the load tables on our website by searching "SD" on strongtie.com and then going to the product page and scrolling to the load tables. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.

A: Hello Gene, this is McKenzie with Simpson Strong-Tie. The Simpson Strong-Tie Strong-Drive SDS Heavy-Duty Connector screw is a 1/4"-diameter high-strength structural screw ideal for various connector installations as well as wood-to-wood and engineered wood applications. This screw was designed to be used with specific connectors. In our catalog, the load tables will reference required fasteners as SDS screws if this is the case. Many times the model number will end in -SDS, signifying them required for installation. I hope this helps.

A: Sure. Be sure these screws are hidden (not pretty). There's some SPAX screws that looks pretty if they're going to be visible.

A: I used these and the 9 x 1 1/2 screws on all my simpson hardware connections on my deck build and it was a lot. Used pressure treated boards from HD and the L competitor. Didn't pre drill any of it. These screws go in fast and tighten intently. None broke and came out and were reused when recutting certain pieces after already being assembled. Awesome screws.

A: No. I have never pre-drilled and I have built three big decks and used hundreds, if not thousands, of these. No issues what-so-ever. Have at it. They're great.
