A:  The thermometer is built to withstand the elements even the extreme cold.

A:  Working and being accurate are two different things. First of all, to insure maximum longevity and accuracy a good cover like the one Weber sells is essential- cheap knockoffs do not last. However, dial type thermometers are notoriously inaccurate. A digital one with a heat proof cable is essential if you need to accurately judge the temperature. Happy grilling.

A:  The grill is stored in an unheated garage in the winter and the gauge hasn't been harmed

A:  Yes you can smoke with this Kettle.I bought the metal charcoal baskets that go on the sides of the grill,that way you have no coals directly under the meat.I have smoked brisket and pork ribs using the indirect method.The grill has sides that swing up so you can add wood chips on top of the charcoal.This works great,you have to make sure you don't add too many briquets so you don't smoke the meat too fast and burn or dry the meat out,smoke it slow and it will turn out DELICIOUS!!!

A:  Hello, Thank you for your question! This unit can be used to smoke meat! We suggest soaking your flavored woodchips for an hour. Open all the vents, place a water pan in the center of the charcoal grate and place hot coals on each side of the charcoal grate. Add water to the pan, and then add woodchips on the charcoal! A:  Yes it can. There are numerous videos showing how to set it up for smoking meat on the internet. Very easy to do. We just did a beef roast and it turned out perfectly.

A:  You can smoke meat in this grill as long as you have a smoke box or make your own smoke bomb, it will take time to get the grill and the smoke box/bomb hot enough to start smoking but it is doable.

A:  Kinda! Not really! It works great for indirect grilling which in turn can smoke certain meats. It is also pretty good at temp control. If you are looking to smoke a shoulder or a brisket, this is not for you. This is a very good grill though.

A:  Please give a little more information regarding your idea. Stock pots come in all sizes including diameter and height so your best bet is to use a ruler and measure diameter and height. A:  Hello, thanks for being a Weber fan! I'm sorry but Weber does not recommend or assist in modifying any of our grills in any way for safety reasons. We only suggest using the grill the way it came out of the box.

A:  Yes the basket is attached and is fairly easy to remove to throw away the ash and used charcoal.

A:  It's extremely simple to assemble! Don't pay HD to build it. You could have a 10-year-old neighbor kid do it for you.
